Don’t watch TV coverage of Covid-19! — by Richard Stallman
Don't watch TV coverage of Covid-19! (Or "social media"; the details are different.) Watching repetitive coverage of something frightening can interfere with clear thinking, even traumatize people.
TV news coverage of a crisis struggles to fill 24 hours a day with "information", notwithstanding the fact that the actual flow of new information about the crisis is nowhere near sufficient to fill that time. What do they do? They repeat. They present tangential and minor details. They make the same points in different ways. They belabor the obvious. They repeat.
If your goal is to be informed, you don't need to dwell on the crisis for hours every day. Not even one hour a day. Getting your news in this inefficient matter will waste a lot of time — and worse.
In addition, it will make you more and more anxious. Someone I knew in 2001, who lived in California. spent all day on Sep 11 and following days watching the TV coverage. Afterward perse was afraid to go outside, watching for terrorist airplanes. TV made it possible for per to be traumatized by events 3000 miles away.
That was an unusually strong case. Most people did not get so traumatized as that. That does not imply it did not affect them. I suspect that the TV coverage may have shifted millions of people's perceptions, so that they overestimated the danger of terrorism while downplaying the danger of laws that take away freedom. This would have smoothed the path for careless passage of the dangerous USA PAT RIOT Act and its massive surveillance.
In any a good, general textual news site, you can read the things you really want to know about Covid-19 in 10 or 20 minutes a day. Then you won't fall behind on your work, and you won't be brainwashed into panic.
Keep calm and carry on!
Ain't that the truth.
TV is bad nes, seriously.
The Internet tells you everything you want to know, when you want to know it, shallow when you want it, super in depth when you want it.
If you just follow this thread you're better informed than most.
They try to scare you into compliant compulsive binge watching their shows.

HEARTGARD Plus is unsuitable, as it contains fairly low levels of Ivermectin but fairly high levels of Pyrantel, a deworming drug present in great amounts especially if you go for higher doses. Its kinda the Coricidin Cough & Cold of Ivermectin: It has the good stuff but also lots of the bad stuff.
You're going to need pills intended for humans or livestock, or an oral syringe for horses The pills are a better choice.

I suspect that last week was the worst week of the pandemic and things will start rapidly improving over the next two months. By the end of March, deaths will be down to a couple hundred a day and by May down to a couple dozen.

God I hope so
Doing another shift giving vaccines tomorrow. Different location this time, I dont have to do any EMR stuff, just drawing up and giving vaccines. Easy peasy. It is fun because everyone is so grateful which is not ordinarily the case when providing care to patients. Sometimes. But not often.

I'm going to disagree with this while hoping that you are correct. If/when one or more of the variants of concern (VOC) take hold things are apt to change quickly. Vaccine rollout challenges, anti-vaxxers and emerging VOCs all lead me to think that there are still some significant pain on the horizon.

I think we are starting to see significant herd immunity effects in parts of the country. North and South Dakota for example, where it’s likely that 50% of the population has been infected or vaccinated.

Probably after 7 days out from the first dose of the vaccine, you are in the clear from having a fatal case of covid.

I’m going to be slightly hermitish until I get the vaccine.
My local grocery store just started doing antibody tests and I’m considering getting one. The last time I was sick was three days after picking my mom up at the airport from South Korea on March 3, so maybe I already had it 🤷♂️

Someone just told me about the Manaus strain. This looks serious. Previous infections are not preventing new infections with this strain. It is more contagious and more deadly.
https://www.thelancet.com/journals/lancet/article/PIIS0140-6736(21)00183-5/fulltext
Quote:
After initially containing severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), many European and Asian countries had a resurgence of COVID-19 consistent with a large proportion of the population remaining susceptible to the virus after the first epidemic wave.1 By contrast, in Manaus, Brazil, a study of blood donors indicated that 76% (95% CI 67–98) of the population had been infected with SARS-CoV-2 by October, 2020.2 High attack rates of SARS-CoV-2 were also estimated in population-based samples from other locations in the Amazon Basin—eg, Iquitos, Peru 70% (67–73).3 The estimated SARS-CoV-2 attack rate in Manaus would be above the theoretical herd immunity threshold (67%), given a basic case reproduction number (R0) of 3.4 In this context, the abrupt increase in the number of COVID-19 hospital admissions in Manaus during January, 2021 (3431 in Jan 1–19, 2021, vs 552 in Dec 1–19, 2020) is unexpected and of concern (figure).5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 After a large epidemic that peaked in late April, 2020, COVID-19 hospitalisations in Manaus remained stable and fairly low for 7 months from May to November, despite the relaxation of COVID-19 control measures during that period (figure).

Fortunately it is a simple fix to make to the mRNA in vaccine. They could literally make these changes to the vaccine in a week, and start producing an updated one
Not sure if the traditional vaccine techniques can keep up

I find this slippery virus astonishing, in how it can mutate in such a short time. not sure, but I think never in recorded history for such rapid mutation.
