Is there a chance this isn't even mycelium?
    #27172120 - 01/27/21 03:59 AM (1 month, 6 days ago)

I had zero luck with these genetics last tub.

It just got really fluffy and never fruited.

So I have taken a grain from a spare jar and put it onto MAE and I'm trying to get some healthy mycelium before going to grain this time but it still looks fluffy and lifeless.

Bad genetics? Infected already? Not even mycelium?

That’s myc. Those weird missing slices are fairly common. Just keep transferring from the solid growth.

Personally I’d go for the 3-6 sector.

Thanks for the reply!

So there is a benefit to continuously transferring, even if it looks a bit unhealthy to begin with?

(Sorry for the amateur question)

Yep you keep transferring a tiny piece from a healthy looking section until you get a clean solid culture.

But if it’s the same genetics that didn’t fruit last time, is it potentially a waste of time? Or could repeated isolations improve my chances?

Thank you again for your help

Unless it was a clone from the original tub (that didn't fruit so probably not) you still have a lot of variation in the genetics in the plate. I would do like AKA and grab 3-6 piece and grow it out until it is clean. Then wedge that to a jar and try a shoebox 1 jar to some coir. That way you can test it and see how it fruits. If you get a nice canopy with healthy fruits you can clone one of the fruits and "isolate" that genetic. If it is a poor fruiter, just return to the Plate and try a new section.

I have a variety that grows exactly like that plate above.even after 4 transfers its still the same..though it did fruit after 2nd transfer went to grains..took a clone and got rhizo growth but it turns out the fruits were weak even though they turned a dark blue when harvesting. The variety I'm talking about is called KSAT..KSSS crossed with TAT.
