Has anybody grown actives on blocks instead of in tubs

Just curious if this is possible , I assume people use tubs for a reason but is there a reason you cant grow them on blocks in a humid environment instead ?
Edit: Is there any difference doing liquid culture with Actives
Edit : colonized substrate and spawn blocks

Yes Quote:

It provides the necessary microclimate, a large flat & level surface area, and they can be found anywhere and utilized anywhere.

No. Many people colonize sub in bags and fruit in a Martha or the like.

Nope.

Edit : colonized substrate and spawn blocks
Yeah, IDK

I'm assuming that the blcoks you are referring to are just colonized grain. The main reason you use the common substrate mixes is that they dramatically increase the available water for fruiting. A block of colonized grain has lots of energy, but can't hold much water, in contrast to a compressed block of straw for oysters. That limits fruiting capacity. Any formed block will fruit, but will dry out quickly.

This is the closest equivalent to cubensis production blocks:

I’ve mixed my colonized grain with sub in a bag and just cut open the bag when readyfor fruiting yes if thats what you mean, after doing this id much rather stick with tubs, its alot harder for me to harvest when fruits are forming all over a block rather than the flat surface of the tub

1st post & 3rd page 1/2 way down.
Almost 11 yrs old so filter some outdated information but Boris threw out some bad azz blocks in a martha type set up back in the day.

Yeah I have seen people do it. I love Boris blocks. They are so pretty.
I would recommend following some form of CV CV with Straw to help hold the block together before debagging it during fruiting.

Now that i've got a good handle on bags, i have thought about doing this. I've seen just a few posts over time where people are doing this. This thread below might just push me to give a go on my next big spawn run. Mycobolical reports 2qts dry yield from 2qts spawn so that's bang on to monotub expectations. And hell, i'm using 32qt tubs with 4qts of spawn per tub. BUT i can fit three 4qt bags in them, so i would almost bet four 2qt bags would fit, which would mean much more space efficiency, less coir usage, less cleanup...

Thanks for the link , I like the way he did it , hopefully I can get away without using a casing layer If I have a proper grow room

You can definitely topfruit the bags as is, the layer of coir just helps with surface climate. Then in that case, you'd probably like his other thread as well!

I believe i read in another post he no longer uses that setup, but i have no doubt he'd be willing to chat about it.

Im planning to make my grow tent the appropriate climate , so im curious if i actually need to do a casing layer .
But its cool to see people just top fruiting them , seems much more convenient

Yeah you should have no issue. I personally use tubs to make colonized bricks which I flip onto the lid and fruit in my Martha

1 cup wheat 1 cup water 1cup vermiculite
Cook in mushroom grow bags for an hour and a half 15 psi ,let cool and inoculate in front of flowhood After bags are fully colonized i put in greenhouse enjoy mushrooms
No grain prep no soaking no extra steps other than what I’ve said
Close bags up like this before you cook and leave them like this to colonize

My martha set up Light on 24/7 80° Humidity on for 15 minutes off for 1/2 hour

Some of my all wheat grows
