I buried myself in Melmac and stopped posting as much last year. Gonna be stepping it up and try to do the exotics and moreso gourmets seriously. I'm considering ordering a bubba barrel next month. I'm fairly diligent to manage preparing masters or LC consistently enough that I could noc as many bags as available. I suppose I should at least spawn my first oyster bag but those barrels do take time to be put together. :evil2:

I confess I have never measured ph values ever.

Now that that's out of the way: I'd like to up my game a little bit and I'm working with different species now so maybe it's time for me to start doing stuff mote seriously.

How would I go about measuring ph for my substrate? These strips only work for fluids right?

I’ve never done that either but I ordered a box of strips way back. Really it’s only for casing though right?

I could be mistaken and perhaps there is a way of soaking your sub/case in a predetermined neutral solution, taking a reading with the strips from that, then doing some math to figure it out, but other than that I believe you need a soil pH meter to take pH readings of dry materials.
There may be simpler way that I am not aware of.

Some coir is ph adjusted, nice stuff. I've been told that adjusting the oh for non buffered coir makes a substantial difference.

I confess that after recently having my oven element short out and try to weld itself to the inside of the oven, I have been SUPER cautious and paranoid when running my PC. I get that it's separate elements and having learned as much as I did while reading about the issue after the fact (its actually quite common and the reason why grounding the body of an oven is so important!) I know there is no more danger now than there was before it happened, but it was still a very intense reminder of how quickly an everyday appliance could have turned into a house fire. Stay safe out there!

I was looking at PH soil testers today but I couldn't find one that looked like it was acurate or of good quality. Well, there was one but it was like 200 dollars. Don't really wanna that much on something that doesn't need to be "lab setting" accurate. I confess that today, I told my wife that if I die before her, I want my coffin to be filled with grain spawn and coir. She said no.

The ph you want to test is the water in whatever the material is... just squeeze out some water and test it.

Would you not need to test the water first to compensate and make sure you are getting a reading of the material and not a reading of the material+water?
I know just within the last 3 houses I've lived, tap pH differed significantly.
Not sure how precise you need to be for this but I imagine pH from coir and water of 7.7 and pH from coir water of 6.9 would give significantly different readings.
Not trying to over complicate things; just clarify.

You can only test the PH of an aqueous solution. The PH of the water or aqueous solution squeezed out of a substrate is essentially the PH of said substrate.

The substance on it's own without water cannot be measured in PH.

I confess I’m letting about twenty jars sit and doing nothing - they’ve been fully colonized since about December 7th. I just can’t seem to get motivated to do anything with them...
I really need to bust it out because I’m completely out of shroomz and I know someone will come knocking before I have any more medicine to give them.

Mid winter blas I guess.
I’m not even logging in to the shroomery more than once or twice a week.

Hi Folks
I want to say thank you so much for your support and concern. I didn't realize I sounded so down. I had quite a few folks check in on me via PM and I did not get back in to look at my PMs for a week or two. It is very sweet of you all to be concerned. I'm not dangerously down or anything like that. I managed to get all those over colonized jars spawned in to shoe boxes or even smaller tupperware or old yogurt tubs ... LAST NIGHT!
OH WELL, it is a start. I also have to look in to my messages and catch up with people I promised free prints to.  If that is anyone reading this, feel free to remind me. I'm absent minded at the best of times and when I get like this I'm very prone to forget things.

Love to you all.
Psilo

Myc_Hunt, You're right about me not being a therapist and certainly don't want to give any professional or medical advice. But you just need to get something off your chest/vent/or just put your thoughts into words; shoot me a pm if you don't want to do it here. For real. I can't do much to help other than listen and give feedback but I'll happily do it.

I've obtained the remaining supplies for LAGTM2021, but haven't brought myself to start. Store-bought fruit is catching trich in a matter of days and I don't see agar plates doing better unless I get this mess of a room cleaned up properly

I wrote out a bunch of btiching and debated whether or not I wanted to submit or not. I did and then erased it and put what I put lol. Thank you though I'll reach out sometime
