I cultivate in a very shitty old house with carpeting, and have seen others cult in atrociously moldy basements and have never met anybody that ran their flowhood 24/7.

Why do you guys do it / why have you done it in the past?

Ive seen it claimed that constantpy starting and stopping your hood is bad for the filter.
That leaving it on continually puts less strain on the fibers, extending its life

I built a positive pressure room and generally was doing myco 24/7 might as well keep it running

If that is in fact true I wonder what the tradeoff is between electricity consumption and the cost of a replacement filter? Seems that the fan running 24/7 would be more of an expense than getting a new filter no?

Whoa! I have had a XXX tub setup before and didn't get more than a couple / few hours a day depending on what was going on. You must have a SAVAGE grow-op lol :hatsoff:

Yeah now that I’ve used a hood it sorts feels like if you had to cross some big cliffs a SAB is like using a tightrope and the hood is like having the Golden Gate Bridge.

I do a lot of relaxing now while the SAB was dead serious concentration and precision the whole time.

I feel this dude. I wore a mask for the first 10 minutes in the flow and chucked it to the side. SAB work was intense for me. So much concentration and trying to be perfect. My hands would start shaking and I'd have to force myself to not get anxiety lol. I left 3 open plates uncovered in front of the filter for about 17 hours on the lowest speed setting and they didn't contam. I'm convinced that you would have to intentionally try to fuck something up to have bad results. I just kick back and relax now and the work gets done in half the time that the SAB took.

So I just got home after work and realized I had left my hood on for about 6-7 hours and the room got warm as fuck. Like it was 70 before I left and the thermometer said 79 when I walked in to check on things. Is that normal?? The flowhood was pretty warm not really hot to the touch but noticeably warm.

I've been leaving mine on for 24 hours while trying to take prints and It seems to still work fine. My room gets kinda warm too but the dehydrator is usually going at the same time.

i think the idea of running it 24/7 applies to actual clean rooms, where the spore load in the air is close to zero (due to the filter running constantly and quality of the building, filtered intake etc). in other words by running it 24/7 it's not shortening the filters life, since most the spores/crap in the air should already by in the filter (cuz it runs 24/7).

The hardest part of switching from SAB to my hood was making myself relax. My back still hurts but that's my fault for being old and half ass broken. I remember the SAB shakes though. Don't dare bump a GD thing. Don't blink either, long lashes will create a current. The only thing about my hood though, my eyes will get dry

Depends on the setup for higher iso rating recirculation is a must but for lower rating it can be passive.

I'm still extra cautious and very concentrated on my movements and trying really hard not to fuck up and second guessing myself a lot as I get back into things. But compared to when I first started, shiiiiiiiit.
I remember reading someone's post a while back about how they don't do like half the shit I was doing (cause that's what I had learned) as preventative measures for SAB work and was killing it. May have been a tc? It was kinda eyeopening. I don't use a towel in the bottom, half the time I don't even spray it. I'll stop, back away, hit a bowl or a cig and go right back to it. My contam is not 0%, but it's better now than it was when I was doing all the extra shit. SAB work got a lot less stressful once I stopped stressing about it.
Would still love a hood though!

My sab has treated me very well so far, but on the other hand I have an air filter running near 24/7 because otherwise my air quality would be absolute shit. The worst part of a SAB is how awkward it is to contort yourself through the arm holes and if I had the finances I'd go for a LFH in a heartbeat.

Spitball was the one who said that it was better to leave the hood on 24/7 and that they get more efficient as the filter ages.

My lab is a 4' x 8' grow tent. I run my hood every day for atleast two hours and run it the entire weekend, every weekend when I do all of my sterile work. Contamination has been almost non existent. I know my hand isn't that steady and I know I would probably be a trich farmer if I was using a sab. Much respect for those who find great success with them. I know I couldn't.

There have been a few where the had pics of the wiring, and im no electrician, but they were most definitely sketch... lol. I did mine fairly easily but my fan unit was pretty old so it was just the 3 wires... I didn't do any sort of switch or anything either... just plug it in and go.

Approximately 5 times its weight. So roughly 1.5l
Personally I would add 1.2 and then top up to field capacity with boiling water the next day.
That's me tho

Lol that’s some straight up old 3rd wave stuff. Forgot about streetlight manifesto.

All I remember now is “when they come for me I’ll be sitting at my desk, with a gun in my hand wearing a bullet proof vest”.

Transplants are sick too. Any of Tim Armstrong’s bands really.

My Jalisco blew up with mold today.

I just can’t crack this one.

Do you think you can install a hood inside a 4'x4' grow tent? I have had good results working with a SAB inside the growtent but really want to build a hood for it.
