Idk, I think it is a genetic roll of the dice. I have had massive fruit that knock dicks in the dirt. I have also isolated a few that are on par with most standard cubensis. The known PE potency is definately their to be singled out just dont assume every clone or isolation is going to be on par with that expectation.

The nice thing about Melmak is that the fruits can be so fucking big one can only need a single one for potency testing with a guinea pig.
Select a handful of big fruits, take a few clone plates from each fruit. Label em then dry the fruits separately from the rest you harvest. Test the fruits for potency and select the top ones. Keep track of which was which, grow out the plates and knock grains up, grow those out and see if the potency is still there. IF so those plates you took wedges from can be used to make masters.
If I may suggest when taking clones from Melmak do it before the stipe turns HPV-like. Ran into trouble with tissue that old, not sure why.

I am super curious to test how well potency translates with clones.
It’d be interesting to do like you said with a bunch of big fruits and compare how the clone comes out compared to the parent. I’ve always wondered how much gets transferred from cloning cuz I’ve had quite a few shoeboxes where I’ll get a few that look just like the donor but the rest might as well be ms.
I suppose it’s probably all about finding the sector that has the parent genes.

I got a buddy working at a cannabis testing facility and says they can test for psilocybin/psilocin content as well. Keeps asking me to provide samples. I think I'm gonna send in a few varieties. Melmac is by far my strongest. Curious how others will stack up.

I would love to be able to just throw some tissue in a machine and see how potent it is. That would make things so much easier.
Imagine picking clones and just feeding bits into a machine to see which ones to use instead plating, growing and eating them all.
I’m sure we’re not too far away from that. Pretty soon places will have alkaloid percentage stickers on the bags they sell.

Yeah here in Oregon that's probably right around the corner. I imagine the OLCC will push the shroom industry through the existing weed system and have nearly identical rules. For now it's only approved for clinical use. I'll post some test results when I end up getting some.

Some of mine dry out over an oz & I am told 1 gram is equivlent to 2 grams to an 1/8th of my other varites.. I could rock a whole party with one biggen
Also with clones the hunt could still be on dont just assume the offspring will be of equal potency as I still find multiple sectors often that need worked out for a true monoculture of known potency & yeild.

I'll be working on trying to get the holy grail.. if you're able to get a potent melmac and expand it and it continues to be potent .that would be awesome. I'll never have to grow anything else again

It shows that something is active but not how potent. The only time for me that more bruising falls in line with potency is with APE. Otherwise it never means a thing IMO.

I'm of the belief that MS should always be on the go of whatever you're cultivating because what you've got now might not be as good as what you could have and fresh genetics always seem to perform better for me than an older monoculture.
My AA yield well and are decently potent but I'm always running MS and clone hunting them. I've started doing the same with RW and now the Mak, especially with Melmak I'm happy I did as cloning failure was high because I left them to mature too long. That's a really important thing I think anyone who plans to Mak out with should take into consideration is pull the motherfucker before the stipe goes fuckywucky, something happens to the tissue and it is really, really hard to recover it I'm finding. Lost a great specimen because none of the cloned tissue would take which is a shame.
Lots of bacteria on tissue from the inner stipe with my Melmak too, not sure why as the plates from my AA and RW during the same cloning sessions were grand.

IIRC this was my first Melmac fruit and many, or all, of my cultures have derived from this specimen. Pic dated Feb 10, 2020

I ran a moldy tub. Probably a solid 30+% green at harvest. Pulled 6oz dry.
