Accidentally sprayed my colonized coir/rye cakes with isopropyl alcohol...

It's been years since I've felt the need to post on here, though I creep the forums a lot silently.
Anyone have any experience on the toxicity of isopropyl alcohol on P. cubensis mycelium?
I didn't realize I had done it until I fully moistened the casing (coir) and began smelling alcohol. Apparently, I keep two very similar looking bottles, one full of water, the other IPA very near each other...
I had pins forming, and they all blued up really dark. I pulled the cakes out and put a fan on them to dry the alcohol away. I'm going to continue with the fruiting process and see if they make anything. I'm by no means a novice, that was just a human error mistake.
They were on their first flush just starting to pin. I wonder if somehow the mycelium can break down the alcohol? Maybe not...
I'm going to continue with them and see what happens. If you have any experience with this, chime in. Thank you.

How do you all accomplish this? Accidently using the wrong stuff I mean.
It's not tek-worthy but buy some tape or a sharpie, or a Shar-pei to remind you. Duct-Tape has a thousand different colours and patterns now. I have a wire rack full of 1 and 2 gallon sprayers. The "This is bad, don't spray this much" ones have hazard duct tape on the handles.

Do this or get some coloured masking tape and wrap it on your bottles or sprayers. If using 1 or 2 gallon sprayers like myself putting it on the container and wand is pretty easy. If you see hazard tape then *stop* and think. If using small hand-held misters then wrap your small mister bottles with yellow masking tape?

Great advice. The sharpie on my bottles has worn off because of water and/or alcohol rubbing off the ink. High-visibility tape is the way to go

I agree. It's been two days and the cake that was pinning heavily has some pins that didn't get wiped out by the alcohol. Those pins are starting to increase in size.
There is a cheesy smell in there now perhaps due to some of the mycelium rotting.
Good advice on labelling the bottle. It was dark when I misted them, and I was using a red head lamp which doesn't help me see colors. I already have them in bottles that are two different colors, but apparently under red light, they are indistinguishable from each other.

Just thought I'd post an update to this for anyone who uses the search function. After misting the cakes with isopropyl alcohol, they did grow more fruits. However, they were much less numerous than they normally are in a grow like that. Also, this made the cakes prone to contamination. Shortly after the second flush, they developed bacterial and trichoderma contamination. I let them finish the flush, and threw the cakes in the compost.
I assume the isopropyl alcohol killed some of the mycelium on the surface which might prevent invaders from taking residence, thus allowing said invaders to, um, take residence. lol
This was my experience with this. Don't do it if you can avoid it, obviously. Label your bottles, but if it happens to you, this might be what you can expect. Peace.

I just use old cleaning bottles and cut the label off the water bottle. Pretty hard to mistake the two.

Sorry you learned the hard way, but it makes me glad people are still doing it once in awhile, cause I need reminders like this so I don’t do It again.
