That $600 was for people with bootstraps. We couldnt give $2600 a person, that would violate everything we stand for.

Brian Jones said: I can see both sides of the landlord argument. I've never been a landlord. I've done a lot of painting and minor repairs for them. If you inherit enough money to rent hundreds or thousands of units, then you're elite and we can heap appropriate scorn on you. Small landlords have it as tough as anybody else. They don't just sit at home watching Netflix and collecting the rent.
Yes, I know. They made an investment, and they are helping it to succeed. Until you redefine investment to not include physical assets with hope of dividends/appreciation, they accept the risk inherent in investing.

SirTripAlot said: With this logic, it would be ok for the government to steal/ hose your labor. A rental is a fixed asset and isnt high on the liquidity scale....these arent day traders. Do you want them to still pay property taxes? Who gets to decide who lives for free and who pays?
Well, for one thing, it does. Just, from the top. In terms of taxes. The government decides how much of your labor it owns automatically. For example, the government owns approximately the time I have spent at work today, due to my effective tax rate of ~30%. The last three hours were the government's cut.
But overall, the possibility of loss is inherent to investing, as is the possibility of gain. However, due to government policy since 2008, the government subsidizes losses using taxpayer funds, so that investing is now essentially a risk free way to make money.

Its not the governments money, first. For example independent contractors dont have tax immediately withheld. Does the govrnment take all of your cash, and then deposit the differance in your account? How would you feel if the government took 100% on your income, for the entirety of the pandemic?
I do get what you are saying and I am all for sensible regulation, but picking who gets to live somewhere for free and who doesn't, seems to be the same type of regulation we dont agree with.

Investors are better prepared to weather the crisis than people that work for a living.
What happens if a house burns down? This is one of those scenarios where landlords eat shit because by virtue of becoming a landlord, they have become an investor who accepts risk for income.
A tenant never accepted risk. A tenant gives someone else money as, basically, an insurance policy. They pass that risk off, and pay for the privilege.

If a house burns down your insurance pays out for the house and your business insurance pays out for loss of revenue. I became friends with the owner of a local pizza shop, he says that when his kitchen burnt he was making more money sitting at home.

Tenants definely have risk.....the house on fire example, the risk of the renter would be the loss of property. Moreover, failure to pay is a risk and not abiding to the terms of the lease (damage to property)one risks civil litigation and credit ramifications.

Maybe house burning down isn't a good example.
Tenants don't take on financial risk that is outside of their control by renting, and that's why tenants don't get to collect passive income when times are good.
Landlords explicitly take on financial risk that is outside of their control by owning, and that's why they get to collect passive income when times are good.
Times are bad, so that's the landlord's problem. No risk, no reward.

Democrats playing 5d chess by negotiating themselves from $50k in student debt cancellation down to $5k before even bringing it to Republicans.
Can’t imagine why half this country doesn’t bother voting.

Dems won the senate but in the spirit of bipartisanship they’re gonna let the party who refuse to accept the results of the election hold half the committee seats.

Looks like it is a common Washington ritual (not defending it), seems in the halls of power this stuff seems predicated on smokey backroom deals. Now, have they given up who will be the Chairman in each? Thats where the agenda and tone typically happens.

Yes yes it’s a big club and you ain’t in it and all that yes.
Fact remains that the GOP knows how to wield power, and does so effectively, and the Democrats preemptively surrender it at the earliest opportunity. This time they’re doing it before they even take power.

They need to have a uniparty dude..your point does remain, though. I used to be a big proponent of gridlock but have changed my tune given the state (or lack thereof) of our country.
Without a doubt, there was a mandate from the voters; would have been even stronger if the elections were held post-riot. You are right about it giving the appreance of supplication/bullshit olive branch.

From a guy who was so mad at trump for doing things that were against the spirit of democracy, you seem to be very excited about the idea of a 'not playing fair' game. Would feel so good when theyre on 'your team' tho huh.. Im sure youll be very proud to stand by what this administration does in the next four years..... But more than likely, i expect a 4 year hiatus of koods engaging in political discusion.

You want your Kumbaya....here is your Kumbaya!
Senate GOP Leader Mitch McConnell and Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer will attend a church service with President-elect Joe Biden tomorrow, at St. Matthews in Washington, DC, according to sources.

Folks. Indiagate happened. We need to sanction their country, threaten war, and impose more stringent security measures.
We cannot allow foreign interference in our elections. I call on every democracy-loving shroomerite to condemn Joe Biden for what he clearly is: a foreign intelligence asset of India.
