Yet another Cased Monotub Question
    #27146046 - 01/13/21 04:20 PM (1 month, 11 days ago)

Hey everyone, whats up?  First off you all are awesome, Ive read tons and tons of threads and tried to learn as much as I could before I ventured onto my 1st grow.  Just some background: I used a mixed grain bag, inoculated with GT's, took a little while but turned out great.  Spawned to a tub with sterilized poo for substrate, 1:2 ratio.  100% colonized after 13 days, then I put a thin 1/4-1/2" casing on it of straight coir (straight from the bag). Removed my hole covers(Ive got 6 2" holes in the tub), flipped the lid and set into fruiting conditions. My question is how much do I mist/fan.  My temps range 66-74 depending on the time of day (I live in an old house, and the windows suck) currently with RH of 85-99% depending on how much Im misting.  Im kind of assuming I mist when I see the coir lighten up from drying out a bit???  I can see it the casing has adequate moisture then dries around the holes first, obviously.  I really havent let it dry out too much.  All for my holes I used the polyfil rolls and doubled that up. It kind of seems thin to me but I dont really know, you can just barely see through the poly. Its been 5 days since i set it in FC, Im not being impatient but just trying to be thorough. I know casing vs not casing is a serious debate around here and the tek I was following was growing great so I figured Id follow it all the way through.  I can barely see a little myc poking through the casing in a spot or two,  I guess Im just asking about proper fae and moisture.  And I know its all a learning game, but a bunch of you all seem super knowledgeable so why not ask. Ill add some pics here shortly.  Thanks for any help or feedback.

Also, about how long are people with cased tubs taking for the first pins to pop through.  And when they do are you misting/fanning as much?  Or just the walls?

Ok 2nd pic is 3 days prior to casing, it was 100% when I cased.  1st is tub currently, nothing crazy to see

Shamelessly bumping my on thread.  But how long are you guys taking to see pinning on your cased tubs?  I’ve got this after 8 days.  I think I was misting waaay too heavily the first 5/6 days and have since stopped.  I’m still running in the 90s RH and temp is about 68-69.  Any thoughts or advice?  Obviously trying to be patient but just want to make sure I’m doing everything I can to help it.

The paterns i'm seeing there dont look great.
I have never personally dumped "coir from a bag" on a sterilized substrate.
Why did you sterilize and not pasteurize? Was your cassing not at field capacity?

Cubes will fruit when conditions are right. Really doesn't matter if/when you case it.

Well, to be honest I was following a video from the n**** s**** website.  Sorry, not sure if mentioning website names if ok or not.  I basically used their spawn bag, and manure based sterilized substrate bags.  Mostly bc I’m a new guy idiot who doesn’t know what he’s doing.  Think I’m f’d?

Those thick white spots look suspicious.

I wondered that myself, but it seemed like fluffy why myc popped up in a lot of posts without too much concern.  The tub had and does not have any bad odor, color, or from what I could tell concerning areas.  It didn’t look at all like
Cobweb mold either from my research.  But I also I don’t know.

Man that sucker was about to fruit like crazy on it's own. You could have skipped the casing. I think those are just knots that you didn't see before you cased.

Yea,  I regret the casing.  First time so I was just trying to follow the steps.  I will definitely try to read the tub more on future grows

Late casing with straight coir is a terrible idea. The sub tries to eat the coco you added while trying to fruit, often causing side and edge pinning only. Next time lay a pseudo at spawning or use a oroperly prepped pasteurized peat based casing

Well shit, ok.  Hopefully I get something outta the tub besides what not to do. Thanks for the advice.  I spied my first couple pins poking through today so I’ll keep my fingers crossed.

You'll just end up with a small number of larger fruits vs. a million little ones packed together. You didn't hurt anything. Maybe slowed it down a couple days but these are very efficient organisms when healthy.

If anything bad happens it would have anyway and what you did was not the cause.

Yeah it’ll totally still fruit, just delays things 3-5 days and makes for a less even canopy, second flush can sometimes outperform first in this situation.

Been using peat for a few hundred tubs, that with verm, dash of lime, into turkey bags, 15 qts, PC for 90 my minutes. Peat doesn't need to be " properly pastuerized." Think peat likes beyond a boiling water bucket tek, unsure. Buty peat comes out at 190-205 degrees. She's beyond  pastuerizing temps. I use my PC for more than grain.

Finally getting some action.  How’s my casing looking?  And when the pins really start popping through, do I mist them directly?  I’m 13 days into fruiting after casing.  I’m running a steady 68 degrees and in 90s rh.

No, never mist the tub directly.

Mist from above and let the droplets of water cascade over the surface of  the substrate.

Make sure you got good surface conditions and wait is all you can do

Right on.  Thanks.  Bad word choice.  I meant, should I just mist the walls or over the top from above?

Some cultures like a good rain. Some will choke and die. The fun is in learning the likes and dislikes of any specific culture. That takes time and repetition.

Most cubes can handle a misting.

Whatever you do just make sure to make a good hand full of spore prints. Then the future is your oyster. Just shuck that fucker and suck it back.
