I don't mind him selling unregulated drugs, that's a personal choice. The fact that he supplied unscrupulous dealers is the dealer's problem, not his.
The guns and attempted murder for hire is why he should stay in prison.

Do you really think all drug sellers should be imprisoned? I heard people sold shrooms on the silk road too. What monsters! If anything,The silk road featured user reviews of vendors, making it easier to get unadulterated drugs than on the street.
Also I'm pretty positive that weapons weren't allowed on the silk road. He wasn't charged with anything weapons related.
I'm not saying he should be pardoned but I can't see any reason for a double life sentence other than to make an example of him to show to others who would actively oppose the war on drugs.

I'm not smearing his character, dude. He clearly made some bad choices. To me, he just looked like a kid who got involved in something that was too big for him to handle, and it blew up in his face. I don't think he's a force of evil or anything like that. I think he made some pretty serious mistakes and he has to deal with the consequences.
I understand why it's easy for you to feel sympathetic towards Ulbricht, considering that this is a discussion board mostly dedicated to the discussion of psilocybin mushrooms. However, there was a lot more going on with the whole Silk Road operation than just drug sales, and I don't think things are so simple in this situation.

Ross should have done 5-10 years tops. Even that could be argued as excessive if you see the drug war as an irreversible failure as I do.
As for kood's argument relating fentanyl, that stuff was coming into the country anyway. Ross's website made little to no difference there. And somehow it's still around even though Ross is imprisoned. Hmm, I wonder why that is?
