It depends on the material but your absolutely right

My dad would dip bearings and what not in liquid propane to shrink them. Back before safety was a thing

No, just material. Theres no delays in anything else, especially customers reaction times to hearing deadlines get pushed back.
Though again, nothing else but waiting for a truck driver who doesn't even work for us.

Were hitting snags with certain things... been waiting on some AL6XN parts, that company said the could get it to us by Nov... so the higher-ups said let's just get the material and make the parts ourselves... sounds great! AL6XN material should get here the last week of Oct...

Since I'm here and haven't been very active on the boards lately,

Yeah raw materials like brass and certain chemicals have incredibly long lead times. What used to be 4-6 weeks is now 8-10

For us it's any steel. Aluminum and brass even plastic is 1 or 2 day delivery but stuff like 10XX and 41XX series is typically the most comon steels to get anywhere.
Literally it's taken 4 weeks just to get a 10' stick of .75 Dia 4140 (not even QT). A year ago there wasn't even a wait time, that stuff was in stock on the rack when you called.

Guess?
The fire arms industry is wack right now. We build gun parts by the thousands a week and it makes me think the ten's of thousands of guns that we (figuratively) flooded into the market and our shop is small as fuck.
Manufacturing is really weird right now man, it's some wack shit man.

Be me
Gets to a mill job. Essentially something for the US defence that is a 304 stainless steel panel that buttons stick out of. Thinks okay bunch a bunch of holes and some gay and slow engraving with a ball end mill.
Programs part, runs 3, figures this project is done and I can let the VF6 run for 4 hours while programing something else.
An hour goes by and I hear a loud smash (like a part being thrown) and go out onto the floor to check it out. Of course its my machine. Plexy glass everywhere, the left door is bent out of the machine. Looking at my fixer plate I notice my 3/8-16 X 3 bolts that hold it to the aluminum plate are FUCKING SHEARED OFF.
Fast forward 30 minutes of getting yelled at for being a piece of shit programmer I looked at the control and noticed someone bumped my feed rate up by 670%. So then looking at the 7/8 end mill I was hoping a big hole in the center out with was still intact in the spindle. So finally I start loosing my shit because someone touched my machine and didn't tell me or anything.
Longer story short, my boss saw the 1/16 ball end mill doing all this engraving at 15 inches per minute and thinks "that's way to fucking slow, it's just engraving steel" so he bumped it up to about 100 inches a minute. Then didn't tell me because he thought it was only engraving. So than I'm not getting my ass chewed out because I'm not engraving quick enough (broke 3 tools before, trust me you can't engrave 300 series stainless like aluminum or 1018) because he thought originally the job wasn't in 304.
So now I'm in his office getting bitched out for "not informing him of my observations of material call outs on prints" because he bid the job thinking it was just normal steel and now he's loosing his ass because the job quite literally will take 5x longer than he bid at even though I never bid/saw this job until a job traveler was slapped on my desk this morning. Then also got bitches out for "throwing a part out of the machine" and "not reasonable programing."
I'm so fucking over this shit. I swear I do my job better than anyone else could try and my boss is intimidated by it so he has to sabotage me. Legit told him to fuck off and he can find another programer.
Now I'm chilling hitting the bong and just watched my phone ring for the nth time from my boss and a couple other people at work. Boss is texting me weird shit about how he wants to say sorry to me and something about sucking dick? One of the guys I could actually call a buddy tells me I need to come back to the shop because my boss is freaking out in his office about getting fucked and is telling people at work right now that the company is going under and what not.
I'm pretty sure I have mental health issues but I'm actually wundering if my boss is on the spectrum, he's done lots of high functioning autist stuff in the past but this shit seams actual retard stuff.

All of that is 100% pure gold, ShopTalk approved!
We're in the middle of trying to switch over how we do our heads... so instead of just machining the blanks and putting them on a shelf til they need to be welded, they machine them all out, put em on carts and push em into the weld booth... so I hammer out 32 of them yesterday... now they're pissed because they're supposed to be stock parts and now they went too far... so my boss goes back thru all the paperwork, lo and behold,, they have orders for every one of them... looks like I was right!
If you dont want that shit welded, don't put it in my weld booth!!
When you're a hammer, everything looks like a nail, right? Well, when you're a welder, everything looks like it should get melted.

Lol! I don't even listen when people start getting on job flow and what needs to be ready when. When it's done, it's done......
Still really ticked off about him fucking with my machine, I'm sure you would loose it if on a job, some one cranked up your amps and boom, puddle fucked, than its your fault because the boss thought you were welding thicker material?
Didn't go in yet today, have 8 missed phone calls. From what I understand since I'm the only person that actually locks and unlocks the buildings alarm, no one could remember the code in 5 minutes so the cops were called lol.
Also have about 6 texts about how they can't get pressure to build in the air system. Yeah I know I'm a retarded young buck but common, can even look for the 3 water traps blowing air like everywhere?
