6 weeks into a necassary 3 month lockdown people would be protesting in groups of thousands, undoing everything they had just done. Then the government would capitulate because people are bitching they are losing money and stop the lockdowns before they became effective enough to track and trace infections and clean them up... Which is what happened.

The US people have been so divided in recent years that it defies all logic. Truly insane contrarian stands fed from the internet on every single topic nest inside their heads. They literally could not build a Lego castle together if everyone got to place one block. Some people would deny the blocks exist (blockspiracy), others would claim that being forced to place a block is against their rights, others would argue about what colour the blocks are whilst others would never place a block because they'd be bitching that everyone shouldn't be building a castle they should be building a wall.

It is a bitch to break routines and habits. Humans are creatures of habit and naturally abhor change.  Just like any other habit and addiction, it's a long slow process to get back too baseline values that are required for prosperity rather than self destruction.
