https://www.insider.com/man-injected-with-mushrooms-grew-in-blood-caused-organ-failure-2021-1
Is this really possible? Did someone do a realllllly sad job at reporting. It says a tea was made, and I'm assuming they were dry. I guess you could make a cold tea. I feel like there should be 100 other reason why this isn't possible, would almost make me lose some faith in my immune system lol, this is nearly the equivalent of "you swollow watermelon seeds they're Gunna grow in you",but by no means do I think anyone should ever inject anything haha. I guess I'm thinking the mycelium wasn't alive enough most likely to begin with to keep growing, much less survive in the living human body.
Idk u?

Just read this article, lmao.

Agreed. However, I would think the bloodstream is a bad environment for spores to survive long enough to propagate in. That is assuming the white blood-cells would have those spores gone quite quickly.
Now that I think about it, I could swear someone else injected some sort of food or drink into their bloodstream in recent history. They had also went into organ failure iirc. Makes me wonder if just injecting dirty water will do the trick.

Bacterial infection sounds more probable.

The guy had both bacteria and p. cubensis in his bloodstream. They cultured them both from the blood draw.

If our body temperature wasn't around 97F. Fungi would have eaten us a long time ago. Although there a few species discovered that do manage to be able to propagate in our lungs.
Interesting but hard to believe from a single case. Not to mention all the growers out there living in a persistent cloud of cube spores.
I think the bottom line is; injecting unsterile substances into our body it's self is playing Russian roulette.

Blood is an ideal matrix for growth of both bacteria and molds. In fact, lambs blood is used as a liquid culture medium, and a solid gel culture medium frequently in scientific world cause it has everything a growing bacterium or mold needs, notably phosphate, nitrogen, amino acids etc..
Edit: Though I would include this because though sad it is very unusual and interesting about a fatal overdose of magic mushrooms PubMed Link
As far as I understand this is the only case where the cause of death is Pyslocin alone.

No it definetly happened I guess! Someone found the original case info from one of the labs involved.
This should take you to the drop box with the document.

They wondered if cubensis culturing in the bloodstream could produce psychoactive effects?!

I wonder if he drew up some viable mycelium in that syringe. Injecting a liquid culture and partially inoculating some tissue on the way to the vein would give the cubes a speed boost over the adaptive immune system, especially if he's been taking high doses of heroine since that can be immunosupressive. People with uncontrolled HIV can get nasty fungal infections because they loose a lot of function in adaptive immunity. this is a new one though. Gotta hand it to the dude, he discovered a novel growth medium. I'm pretty sure the yields will be disappointing though. maybe he'll write up a tech for us the advanced mycology crowd.

I read this as well. Makes me wonder if animal blood would be a viable way to make cultures
