 What if they are wrong..

Our sun is said to be about 4.6 billion years old with a life expectancy of 10 billion years.. they were able to pull these numbers from other neighboring stars and then compare those numbers to ours.
But, what if they are wrong? Space and everything in and around it is completely unpredictable. We haven't been around that long for one to throw solid numbers like that.
Oh, what if the sun is on its death bed hence global warming which is why they are spending trillions of shmackaroos in search of a habitable planet?
My guess.. we got about 100 years before it explodes.

It's actually fairly likely that it could happen in the next 3-4 solar cycles based on where we are on the galactic sheet, solar data, and relative timelines compared to historically/geologically significant events. It's more of a big sneeze, it wipes the magnetosphere and then we reset. Those flash frozen ice age mammals are likely a result of one of these micro-nova events. The sun is not going to nova. But it might micro-nova which is just marginally better

The moon has a very low density gas atmosphere, I believe containing sodium gas. High school let us down.
That said, you don’t have to listen for a ring through strictly gaseous materials. You can detect the frequency of just about any object after it has been acted upon.

Impact from a large object as happened to the dinosaurs certainly is possible with little warning.
Personally I think a gamma burst is the scariest as we would have no warning before our ozone layer was destroyed in 30 seconds or less and we were immediately bombarded with radiation.

not quite sure if this is all accurate, just sharing a word.
by reading the ice core labs and remnants of ancient civilization, there's an evidence that there's a pattern and rhythm of cycles in 5k+ years as the planet revolves around the sun. There are suns that are say 80,000 light years away.....so what if they exploded 79,999 years ago and produced a quasar that was pointed right at us? We wouldn't know until we get hit...so I say there is no point in worrying about such things

You can get a rough age of how old a star is by many factors, not least it's most common source of fuel and the CNO cycle it undergoes. It's very well established science.
