Brf cake to bulk question

Hey guys. I had a bit of a syringe left so I made up 2 half pint jars.
I want to shred these 2 to a CV substrate. I know it's a small amount of spawn , but it's really how I want to do these 2 jars.
I'll have 1 pint of spawn so add that to 1 quart of substrate? Maybe 1.5? Is this correct?
What size container would be best? The smallest tub I see at Walmart is 6qt. Seems too big.
Like I said , I know it's not a lot , but it's what I want to do , and I know it can be done , I just dont see any mention of tub size ever.

2 half pints into a 6qt shoebox would work. I’ve done it before. It’s not ideal, but can work. I’d do a quart of CV mixed with your spawn, then add a top layer.

you can grow in anything. don't get too hung up on a certain wallmart model. I've grown in icecream containers, glasses, bowls, ... just find something that fits your substrate volume.

I've grown in gallon juice containers and those plastic Chinese food containers. As long as you have a manner in keeping humidity and a way to have FAE you'll be good. Add a top layer at spawning, I always recommend one when starting out, I run a top layer every time.

Thanks for the answers guys . Some of those brf cake grows are amazing !
What is the top substrate layer for? I would put some on top of the CV + spawn mix? About how much?
How come those grows dont need a black trash bag liner or a lid?

I usually put an extra layer of coir that is somewhere around 1/4" - 1/2" thick on top. It just help keeps nice surface conditions.

A liner can be clear. The main purpose of a liner is to shrink with the sub. The liner sticks to the sub which prevents a gap forming between the sub and the tub. The gap can cause side pins as it could have a nicer micro climate than the surface. However, if your surface conditions are good than side pinning will be reduced. Also side shrooms are still edible
I did keep a bit of plastic over the top of the fish bowl and the bottle had some micro pore tape over the holes. But the bottle probably didn't need it. It's really a case of your ambient humidity. If you live somewhere dry you'll need a lid more than if you live somewhere humid.
