How long should I wait for spores to start showing myc in Agar?

Just wondering how long it can take for Myc growth to start showing.
I have several agar dishes that are from weeks to months old with nothing in them, some of them have a few yellow spots but no white Myc.
If the dishes show Trich I tend to just throw them out.
Thanks

should only take 6-14 days if you use a syringe.

Don't wait longer than a week. Waste of time. Lately most of the spores I put to agar will show growth in 3 days.

Over the years, I have noticed syringes can be more difficult to germinate on agar. Was like 50-50 chance with me. Since I switched to prints, getting about 95-98% germination rate. I'd find some sterile swabs, put a drop or two onto the swab, then inoculate the agar. Unsure why, but when I started, I found syringes to agar can have an overall poor germination rate. Perhaps it's that single drop of water, that sits there for 4-5 days to evaporate. I was doing 10-12 plates with a syringe, only getting 3-6 to germinate. With prints, only doing 4-5 plates now. Same agar recipe, but germination rate almost 100%

Ok. Thanks so far. So anything older than 2 weeks I'll chuck out. They are taking up space unnecessarily.
I have tried prints direct to agar and not had much success. I am now also trying prints to syringe to agar, with about 3 drops.
I thought that the spores need to be hydrated prior to germination on agar..

If they're older spores and from a print it could take up to a month. But in general they take a week or less and sometimes up to two weeks

I'm in the same boat, getting horrible germination % with syringes. So far I've had 3/9 (inoculated 5 weeks ago), 1/15 (inoculated 12 days ago) and 0/10 (only inoculated 3 days ago though so that's TBD). I'm about to just inject a bunch of BRF cakes so I can get some prints/clones/swabs and give the syringes away. They're a total pain in the ass.
With all that being said, the batch of 15 was split between APE, PE and GT with 5 plates each. Surprisingly, APE is the one that germinated

really as long as a month?
How old is old? I have some spores that are about 3 years old and some syringes that are about a year old now.

Year plus might take 4+ weeks not unheard of. Hopefully less.
If they're under a year old I would give up after a couple weeks

Having this problem right now. Any spore print tek you recommend? I've just been putting the caps on foil and then putting a jar on top and leave in a SAB. Haven't had much luck with prints either though

Fresh PE6 spores were the fastest Ive seen. tiny but visible growth by the end of the very next day. On the other hand A 3 years old(maybe older i don't remember) galindoi print Took a solid month and about a whole sleeve of plates to get anything to grow. The way that works best for me (by far) is a tiny wire loop dippedinto sterile water or sometimes just a droplet from the lid of the clean plate. Just enough to suspend a bit in the loop. This is only important part that I didn't learn for a long time.(Imgaine Like what it'd look like if you were trying to blow tiny bubbles) The point is for the water droplet to disperse the spores when you touch it to a spore print or just use 1 drop from a syringe and GENTLY zig zag it on the plate
(Gently, like you know how when someone falls asleep at a party with their shoes still on you're supposed to draw a dick on their forehead without waking them up kind of gently). anyways I like this way because so few spores makes it easy to see individual colonies form plus any tams are isolated nicely away from mycelium

Haha, good example for the level of gentleness needed...
+1 for things potentially taking a month or more to germinate. If you have the supplies to let things run, let them run and you may be surprised.
Otherwise use the above advice and/or loosen up your agar recipe and try again.

I was just about to take my own advice a few hours ago and throw my plates out that haven't shown activity for 14 days. I gave them all a quick look while my PC was running and I noticed a tiny spec of PE myc on one plate, and the APE plate that already germinated has another tiny spec of myc starting in another place. That brings my total for that stack to 2/15 lol...But, since I'm seeing late activity I'll be a sucker and hold onto them for another few weeks just to see what shows up. Cheers!

What is the longest someone has waited for a plate to germinate. I’m only 4 days in to streaking a swab of APE and a swab of Melmac, but trying to figure out what to expect. Is 2 weeks the point of diminishing hope?

I noticed jack frost mycelium with a spore swab after only 2 days, but the p. natalensis that I put to agar the same day still has no growth a week later. Still holding out hope.

I wait as long as it takes if there's no contamination what's the harm....
I've seen spores leap to life after months on agar. Some kick in in just a day or two, under the scope as soon as 12 hours.

I'm with Nichrome here, if there's no contam on the agar let em be for as long as you can and see what happens.
For me it was about after 3 months I finally tossed some plates that I was hoping would take off that were from my first grow ever back in 2010 lmao
I tried to do multiple ways to see if the spores would germinate but nothing worked. So for the way I stored the spores it looks like 13+ years was too long
I had a 7+ year old syringe that worked great though. I wonder if it was because it was stored in water that preserved it, maybe someone else knows
But yea the 13+ year old spore print on tin foil wouldn't work anyway

I have cube prints that won't germ after a few weeks and prints that germ fine after 20 years. There are a lot of factors at play.
The moisture was likely the biggest factor in the case of spore solution still being viable. This is a life planet and all that life needs moisture.
