I want to preface this thread with this: We, The Human Species, are an arrogant people. We think we know a lot about viruses, and yet, every year our catalogue of viruses seems to expand. This thread is intended to allow us to speak openly and freely about our observations of anything virus related - including treatments.

Let us begin - together - with a timeline of virus births. I will do three, and another member can continue the list. Let's keep this thread as an adult, serious thread please.

This one doesn't relate to covid but the vestiges of some ancient virus. A vestigial virus protein that got incorporated into our genome.

You're missing a lot of flu variants that have been problematic
H5N1 - avian influenza
H1N1 - swine influenza 2009
H1N1 - Spanish influenza (1917-1918)

these are just off the top of my head that made a splash in the human population.

Viruses are just software patches. most of them you don't even notice, or maybe they even help you personally. sometimes they're a huge pain in the ass. the devs and/or server admins went all out on the 20.2.0 update, these questlines are all over the place. they are really trying to pigeonhole players into allying with one particular clan. I dunno, maybe a setup for a civil war questline in the 20.2.1 patch they just rolled out but I guess we'll just have to see.

Knowing what you now know about Coronavirus (Covid-19), human behavior, sterile technique(s), Hepa filtration, vaccines, and biological warfare, what inventions would you propose to better adapt to forthcoming viruses?

In addition to inventions, what practical, obvious modifications would you implement to prevent the un-cleanliness of society from getting worse?

Going out into nature and collecting viruses, literally increasing the close contact between humans and other mammals and those mammals' viruses dramatically increases the risk of a pandemic. To think you can collect viruses and predict a pandemic, literally beating randomness, is ridiculous.

And dicking around with them in a lab and working to make them more infectious is also ridiculous and in total denial of the randomness of spillover.

This is purely a "fuck around and find out" way of doing things.
