Hi, I am a MadMonastic, and I've been lurking on this forum for FIVE YEARS. 4

I chose this username because it is the most frank and literal thing I could think of that was also an alliterative. My profile says some things about me, but I'll give a gist. I am really excited to be part of this community. I had been lurking for around five years before making this account and post; I was underage for part of that time. I've had a love for mycology for a very long time, and was dedicated and enthralled since after I saw David Aurora talk in Tuolumne Meadows in Yosemite. When I was a kid, I said that when I to grow up I want to be a tree hugger. My teacher was not satisfied so I asked my mom what the technical term for tree hugger was as a job, and she said "naturalist" so I rolled with that. Lol.
I am a MadMonastic simply because I spent a good part of my life in and out of mental institutions for a diagnosis of schizophrenia. Later, I became addicted to methamphetamine and some opioids, but have now been clean for longer than the time I was using. I have a detailed rhetorical essay on how one should not automatically assume that every schizophrenic person should never ever take psychedelics, which involves the fact that schizophrenia as a nosological item is a construct which is effectively empirically meaningless and undefined, perpetuated by the hegemonic ideology of institutional psychiatry to commit gross and abusive human rights violations since the Enlightenment, and yes, today. But instead of sharing that, I will just say that psychopharmacological reactions are, of course, very case-by-case / incidental. I have tripped hundreds of times and have never once been led into psychosis as a result (despite other reasons serving as that catalyst at times), have never occasioned myself into a dangerous situation, and generally, have handled psychedelics — and integrated the benefits thereof — than anyone I knew.
Anyway, I was essentially a nomadic poet for a while, and am now a Candidate monk at a monastery near San Francisco, with a small cenobitic biritual (both Eastern and Roman) order. I have not consumed psychedelics in over a year, but am planning on occasionally utilizing them at times when I am away from the monastery. Currently I only live there half time, as I am Pre-Novitiate.
I am a Scholar-Analyst at a Lacanian School of Psychoanalysis, with the aim of bringing this modality into my broader diocesan community through the context of the monastic priesthood, and I make a living from freelance content writing / copyediting, and I am a published poet and essayist with a debut full length collection from Wipf & Stock Publishing House.
I am also an organist, and am fluent in Spanish, Irish, and Ecclesiastical Latin (duh lol) besides English of course.
Also I like inkblots. Like, really like them.
So how are you guys today?

Welcome! Interesting to read your introduction. Is your so called schizophrenia now in remission? I would be interested to hear more about views about psyhedelics and personal healing. I work in psychiatry myself.

In Canada you can buy LSD on the clear net, its meant for microdosing, an entire 30ml bottle only contains 465ugs, and is like $75 but thats like 4 or 5 doses right?
I posted the website before, but Asante redacted it like a bat out of hell, so I dont think im allowed to post it

I think there are some Canadian vendors that sell psilocybe mushrooms on the open web too. Completely illegal but I guess not a law enforcement priority.
Peyote and ibogaine are legal in Canada though.

The seeds are cheap as hell though. And I think you can get plants pretty cheap from places like Thailand, though I have never done this. With the proper paperwork that is legal though I think.

No, it doesn't make mutants although it does alter the appearance of the plant. And it doesn't result in low alkaloid content relative to the tiny amount of alkaloids there would be in the much smaller plants you would have if you didn't graft. Relative to much older hard grown plants of the same size, yeah the water content will be higher. But it's kind of an apples and oranges comparison since it takes much longer to hard grow them to the same size.

Yes, complete remission I would say, given my level of occupational functioning. However as a perpetual student of the spiritual life, I cannot say that I am in "excellent" mental health as I believe in constant acknowledgement and confession or our faults and sufferings and that there is always more to improve. The moment actually came some short time after I got clean, and it was precise, sudden, almost miraculous. I could attribute it to a lot of different factors, one of them being my own psychoanalysis therapy. But it is worth noting that by then I had recently completed a long and winding taper off medications. I believe my experiences with such altered and profoundly aberrant states of mind only gave me the muscle needed to adeptly navigate "bad trips" (which I view as challenging, often more productive trips).

Check out "Lophophora Growers Unite" in the Ethnobotanical Garden subforum. I can PM you some pictures too.
Sorry for sidetracking your thread and welcome to the forum OP, got carried away talking about this topic. You sound like an interesting person. My sister has kind of a similar background, she got a Master of Divinity degree and she is licensed as a therapist.

Gratitude to all of you for the welcome! And do not worry about "derailing" with the Loph discussion! I am big into the ethnobotanical garden, and cactus grafting, and have for several years been growing and grafting Lophophora spp. with Pereskiopsis and Trichocereus! Thanks for the discussion.
