First time hunting, did I get lucky?
    #27138014 - 01/09/21 04:23 PM (3 years, 19 days ago)

I went mushroom hunting for the very first time. I thought I had found a bunch of p. pellicula but thanks to helpful information from these message boards I found that they were imposters :frown:

However! I cannot determine for myself whether these in the photos are Gymnopilus luteofolius or not. I tried looking up what mushrooms may be lookalikes but to me these look more like g. Luteofolius than the lookalikes. Please help!

These were found in old urban landscaping which has decomposing wood chips and leaves. I’m in the SF Bay Area, and it has been raining a little bit recently. Thanks in advance for any help!

I’m not a trusted identifier but they look promising to me. I found gymnopilus luteofolius for the first time this year. Look for tiny blue dots on the cap that’s how I correctly identified mine. A lot of the time they won’t have blue spots though so I got lucky.

Not a trusted IDer either, but I found some g. Thiersii a couple weeks ago and they look very similar. Either Thiersii, Leutofolius, or inactive Dilepis. Don’t see any bruising, but the pictures aren’t super focused so I can’t really tell. Do you see any greenish bruising?

Is that green bruising in the second picture or just grass coloration?
