Tips for a popping knee?

I used to run daily for years. Over the past year I lifted weights and stopped running but decided to run a few miles one weekend. I ran on Saturday and Sunday but on Monday one of my knees was very swollen and there was some pain extending and recoiling my leg at the knee joint. Over the past few weeks I’ve used some products to bring the swelling down and they’ve helped.. There’s very little pain in that area but my knee is popping when I walk and also if I squat past a certain point. There’s no pain doing that stuff and there’s only a slight pain when I squat to where my bottom hits the floor, but this is a lingering issue that I’m hoping a doctor doesn’t need to fix.
I’ve been using glucosamine and chondroitin over the past few weeks but am wondering if anyone has had an issue like this before and if there was anything in particular they thought helped.

Without getting it checked out its hard to say could be any number of things, torn or inflamed ligament, tendon, cartilage and the list goes on. Best to just change your program for a few weeks avoid running and training legs, then ease back into it. That's honestly the best thing you can do.
As you get older these injuries become more common and your body wont recover as fast best to rest rather than get stuck with a lingering injury for the next 'x' amount of years.
Having said all that patella straps are awesome for knee issues especially what you are describing. Exactly like this one: https://www.mcdavidusa.com/products/knee-strap-patella
Also there's the old runners and power lifters rubber band trick, I don't know how it works but fuck it works:
Then the other thing I personally rate which requires a lot of personal research to decide if it is right for you as well as money would be GH or even a light course of anabolics. It may be a taboo subject but if you are training hard, getting older and you've had as many surgeries as I have its a life changer in regards to quality of life. Something to read into.
