Overcome contamination?
    #27137618 - 01/09/21 12:48 PM (3 years, 19 days ago)

Are there any circumstances where contamination can be overcome by the mycelium? I have a cake that was colonizing, & had an area that showed signs of contamination,  grey dust is how I'd explain it. I tried to cut it out, im not sure if that method is ever recommended..At this point the cake is completely recovered in mycelium (white) however I do think I see a small area of concern. I'd love some advice from you guys on whether or not contamination can be overcome. Also, if a cake is contaminated, does that ruin all cakes in terrarium? Thanks.

Pics? Grey is usually too dry. Turns grey before blue.

With certain mushroom species yes. Cutting out the contam is not recommend.  With cubes I'd just toss it at any sign of contam, unless its misidentified and is just brusing or dry cube mycelium.

I occasionally cut and salt to finish a flush if it's just a small area but 90% of the time it gets tossed as soon as it shows. Not worth the trouble unless it's a day or two from finishing and enough to let it go.
