Question about Liberty caps
    #27137552 - 01/09/21 12:11 PM (3 years, 19 days ago)

This is probably in the wrong section but I thought growers would know the answer. So  here in the UK it's a few weeks since the liberty cap season ended, what happens once the spores have dropped and the mushrooms have rotted away? What is happening between now and next autumn, we currently have hard frosts and snow, so what's going on with the spores? I can't seem to find an answer on Google, I see images on the life cycle of a mushroom but it doesn't explain what's happening through the many months and rough conditions like now.

Would really appreciate an explanation, cheers

They go dormant after fruiting, like storing a culture in the fridge, then when it warms up they "wake up", start colonising/expanding and fruit again once the conditions are right. The mycelium is still there, but the conditions just aren't right for growth or fruiting. Fungicides and too many people trampling the ground are the main ways in which the mycelium gets damaged.

Like perennials, the myc can potentially live for years but will only fruit (or in plant terms bloom) when conditions are right. i.e. temp, humidity, moisture content, air flow etc
