Growing Oysters indoor - my concerns

Hey! I want to start growing Oyster mushrooms indoor. Because Oysters need a lot of FAE the lid of SGFC should be taken off to provide as much air as possible. I have 2 concerns:
1. It's going to smell bad in my room. 2. It's going to be messy because of the spores flying around.
I was thinking about not taking the lid off and installing a PC fan inside so it keeps the air flowing. What do you guys think about this idea? Should I worry about the smell and the mess? Is the PC fan enough?
Are there any other gourmet species which perform better indoor? I want to do the PF tek as a fun little project. I don't expect some hardcore yields but I've seen a guy which actually did pretty well with Oysters in a SGFC (lid taken off).Link here.
Have a nice day!

well the smell and the spores wont be stopped by the lid as you should have hundreds of holes all over the sgfc.
oysters need lots of FAE and might perform poorly in a sgfc because of that. if you have patience try shiitake on pf tek, another that can do ok in a sgfc would be king oysters.

That sucks :/ I guess I'll have to pass on this idea. It's going to be too messy as I expected. Thanks for info.

You can always go the route of using a grow tent. Not messy really and shouldn't be strong smells.

oysters (excluding kings) are gonna be the only one to produce lots of spores and mushrooms dont have a very strong smell anyways.

Thanks for all your answers.
Buying a tent is definitely the best idea but I don't have money for that kind of a professional setup.
According to this page King Oysters need the temps in a range 55-65F. It's impossible for me to get that king of temperature in my room. It's just too cold. The temps in the basement are too low on the other hand.

Then a tent is your only option a tent would be around $200-$400 depending on the options you choose.

Dude, just get 2x4x8s and make a frame. Use 10x25 plastic sheeting 3mm to make the tent. I'm currently in the process of framing mine in my spare bedroom now. Was going with a shelf tent but I figured it's less work long run just to make a tent. Using a 55g plastic drum modified with a fogger and fan as my humidifier from a local car wash for $25. Pretty sure those Temps are just optimal growth anyways and they'll grow slower outside the range.

You could also modify a Martha tent to seal the bottom and exhaust the air inside.

No, you can not exhaust inside unless you have a death wish and want everything covered in spores. unless you are talking about exhausting the air inside the tent outside your house.

Ive done blues with great success in a tote with a PC fan. But you still need to get the fan intervals right. Amd even thwn it is nowhere near ideal. As for spores.. just harvest before they drop, which is whay you should be doing anyway.

No, you have not. You may think you have but I guarantee you that is not possible in a tote. Either you do not have enough FAE or in your case, not enough humidity. There is a difference between growing oysters in a tote and growing proper oysters in a tote. Will they grow? Yes. Will they grow properly? No.

So all in all it's easier to grow magic shrooms indoor than to grow some edible types which require a lot of FAE.
I might invest in a better setup in the future or make my own tent. Appreciate your input.

Right, you got what I meant. Exhaust the air inside the tent outside.

As I said. A tote grow is not ideal, but I get excellent clusters amd decent caps with my tote fruiting chamber. Kings especially grow wonderfully in totes. So yes, you absolutely CAN grow oysters in a tote with a PC fan and auto mister. You will get results exactly as I have pictured. Stipes arent ideal but these oysters are still delicious. And chewy stipes are great in soups. Everything I grow is out of my auto chamber tote and Ive gotten pretty dang good at producing decent fruits. Its great for apartment grows.

Like I said you can grow oysters in a tote but you can not grow good oysters in a tote. Look at those stipes. That all would have been cap if you had a proper growing environment. But if that is all you have to grow in? I understand and at least you are growing. But more than half of your grow is stipe so you have a lot of wasted energy growing stipe instead of caps.

Oh for sure! Its def stipey. Yeah you understand, its all I can do for the moment until I get a bigger place or a property. Ive been focusing on Kings lately bc the massive stipes are the best part. They grow really well in totes.

Yea I noticed the kings in the pics. I just started a king grow I will be inoculating as soon as the sub cools down so I may be asking some questions about them. I am going to be trying them in a mono tub. I made some tubes with a nut to put on my mono tub. I also made a door so I can easily adjust the airflow by sliding it up or down without pulling out or putting in polyfill...
