Powdered fruiting versus myceliated brown rice
    #27136635 - 01/08/21 11:52 PM (3 years, 19 days ago)

Hi Everyone,

I'm in the process of growing lion's mane right now for the medicinal benefits instead of paying for supplements. I noticed that a lot of supplements contain myceliated brown rice, even Paul Stamets brand does. However, it seems more like a ploy to be cheap. What are your thoughts?

Anyways, what are your thoughts on using medicinal muchrooms? Should I cook them up and eat them or maybe dry them or extract chemicals from them?

I think it actually has been shown that the mycelium of lions mane has at least the same if not more of the medicinal compounds as the fruit, however, the fruit body still has a great amount of medicinal compounds obviously and that's how most people would go about it.

Cooking and eating would be great health wise and most people find them delicious but to get the most benefit would be to do an extraction.

I think its faster/cheaper  then waiting for fruit..if the results are the same why not use myc..

Yeah, what MagicConch says. The mycelium is more beneficial than the shroom.

Because it is very difficult to grow as much mycelium as mushrooms.

plus encapsulating/extracting/tincturing is not nearly as pleasurable as cooking and eating.

Yeah unless you're mixing a lot of powder into say, a protein shake or something, it's gonna be a lot more effort to encapsulate all that stuff to get as much of a dose as you would from a tincture of a fruit body.  Make a double extraction from a few pounds of mushrooms and it'll last you months.

Have some medicinal mushrooms and want to get the most out of them?  Try this double extraction method.
