If I warm the tubing in my hands its just enough to slide onto the vac inlet on the vacuum sealer. Then just drilled a 3/8" hole through a jar lid, slid to other end of the tube through and sealed it for testing with hotglue. Will use silcone but hot glue worked well enough. The vacuum chamber could be anything but I like the jar lid as it is interchangable. I will likely get some plastic jars, cut the tops off, and seal those onto larger containers so I can use the lid for vacuum casting as well. Also works with a buchner funnel for filtering MHRB (and whathaveyou).
Literally cost me nothing to make this. Same with the DIY vac pump. A tire air valve, an 12v car air pump, a container and some tubing; all of which I have laying around and are easily accessible for most people. Tube can also be used for vac'ing bags to preseal.
I'm gonna do a write up for both soon but principle is pretty simple.
Edit: just realized your reply was probably directed at micelio. My bad
I've got some fermentation lids for mason jars that would work perfect for this. You can't pull a massive vacuum on them, but for light vac dunking I guess they would work fine. I'm never in such of a hurry I can't just let them soak for 24 hours though.

These Nesco dehydrators and I have a bad relationship. They all suck. Every single one I've ever had has sucked.

Oh yeah, totally not necessary. I have 5 more cakes ready for birthin' that I will hopefully get to tomorrow and this time remember to take weights before starting. Plan is to soak one for 24 hours as a control and vac the others just to get some technical data on it. I like data

Looks like a great tek if youre a tweaker
Me thinks standard dunking is easier and more time efficient tho. Count the time that u have to spend not time to hydrate the cakes.

Problem for me is my schedule doesn't often give me 24 hours free at a time. Much easier due to circumstance and situation to do this than to try to plan things so that I can come back and finish what I started. If I start something today, I need to finish or know it can be left for days if needed. It's a niche fix but I never said it was anything more than that.
I also have some readymade lids and hose and shit for vac sealing ziplock containers but they have been lost in one of many totes of stuff stored away. Literally about 30 mins of design and fab to put this together with stuff laying around my house.
Disclaimer: DO NOT use this method for any flammable gases or fumes. Not recommended for corrosive fumes.

For me, they are. To say my value of time is invalid because it doesn't fit your value system is itself invalid.
Not to be a dick here because I know you are a knowledgable person but for real. It's "Post Your New Tools Of The Trade" not "Post Your New Tools Of The Trade and justify its use in others' application". I explained why it works for me and there is even a link to an ongoing write up with you would like to follow but don't tell me I value my time wrong.

DISCLAIMER- I didn't invent this so I don't want to claim credit. Just don't remember where I saw it. The "tool" is a red hot butter knife (your wife won't miss 1) and a garbage bag as a liner. Mix spawn and substrate in a garbage bag then lay it flat in a mono. Level sub as best you can then trim with your hot knife.
I then do a final leveling or top layer and MP tape holes.

Yea. That is pretty much what I do. Mix spawn and substrate in the trash bag, place in tub, level substrate, add top layer of coir and then trim the trash bag.

I dig it! If I go back to using liners I will give it a shot. I have never done this but it you happen to have a soldering iron/wood burner with an xacto blade tip, that would be perfect.

What is the advantage of trimming versus tucking?
I just tuck and then use the whole bag for clean up and disposal when the sub is done. My bags are pretty close to the right size for my tubs. Maybe larger bags have too much material? Not criticizing or arguing, just curious what the benefit to cutting is and if I am missing out.

I think cutting looks prettier, I have been a fan of eats method of tucking and then flipping the whole spent sub right into the bag

That’s pretty cool I’m surprised the bag doesn’t smoke. I always used a box cutter, if the blade is newer it just slides right along. So satisfying to get a big long cut. Like when you’re cutting wrapping paper and the scissors start to slide while they cut.

Eats method of laying on top of a bag works too. I like this way a little better because you don't have to be so meticulous mixing in your spawn and sub without spilling any outside of the liner. You can use various size bags to various size monos and when you trim with the hot knife its easy to trim very close to the sub surface allowing fae at surface level.
It does smoke a little my room smells like burnouts for a half hour or so after lol.
