I understand that there are multiple different mushrooms as I am curious about all of them but most notably the azu/cyan/allenii look alike as I am not wanting to end up dead if it is "the deadly" galeana" or any other mushroom with toxic consequences

Habitat:
Where does it grow? It is January here in the foothills of Northern California and cold (26-40). Very little snow but recent heavy rain. What does it grow on? Dead wood, pine needles, woodchips

I will update the rest of the info as soon as my prints are complete. I did post a picture of a print above.

Hey friend, if you're looking for Ps. Allenii / Cyanescens, you've got the wrong habitat. You want urban areas with landscaped wood chips. And specifically not bark chips, but wood chips.

Sorry, but nothing you posted is active. Keep looking in the right habitats and remember to take a spore print and post an ID request!

Thank you. I have made prints on foil so they can be seen. I will post a pic with each specimen next to its corresponding print in a few. I'm dealing with vehicle issues at the moment....

Thank you again for the help it's much appreciated and I already like this community.

And just to be more clear they are not growing on bark but rather a pile of sawdust shavings from a tree being cut down. Not sure if that matters however.

Again thank you for taking the time to educate.....much love

As far as urban your correct where I live is the furthest from urban, however, this little town is where gold was heavily hydro mined and on top of that it was once a limber mill town prior to the mining and as of recent pge is tearing trees down left and right...not sure if any of that would help qualify the hunt or not! What do ya think? I have heard of them being found in similar conditions.  But that is why I am here, because I dont know shiitake

Pholiota velaglutinosa, Mycena capillaripes, Galerina badipes and Marasmiellus villosipes.

The pine looks like a 2 needle variety - Pinus contorta?

Thank you for the info. I am going to go back out hunting today or tomorrow with the hope of stumbling upon some spirit lifting treats if I can.

We have a ton of different types of pine here as well as firs, oaks, a few redwoods, and a ton of others!

Do you have any suggestions on what I should be looking for?

If you would like you can look up Dutch Flat Ca for a reference.

I understand you probably have better things to do so I understand if you do not have the time or energy. I appreciate all you have all already done for me. It is much appreciated and I hope to be able to return the knowledge to someone in the future!

Most the active species you’ll find will not be deep in the forest. Look on INaturalist here is a screen shot from a search in did in your larger area for “Psilocybe”

Search your area on mushroom observer too, and most of all, learn the descriptions and characteristics of the mushrooms you are hunting this site has great info is a link to the page

There was an allenii find a couple years ago in Placerville.

Psilocybin containing mushrooms are mostly on the coast, if you are looking for that type it would be a good use of time to head there.
