substrate bag pinning
    #27132410 - 01/07/21 08:28 AM (3 years, 1 month ago)

So questions about full colonization substrate bags.  When do you know?  Does the whole thing need to be white?  Does it need to be entirely covered in the Primordia?  Should you wait till you start to see pins or is that pushing it too far?  I know some species req a temp drop to initiate the Primordia to actually pin.  Can someone post some pics of bags that are 100%?  Having mixed opinions on the pics I've found.

Each specie is different. What in particular are you asking about.

Just in general.  I'm running 13 different species mostly oyster with LM and Bear head. I think I already know what it took like on the later from my jars pinning.  I don't think I've seen the oyster pins the jars just went heavy Primordia.

Well oysters (except king) They should look solid white , generally within 10-14 days after spawned to substrate.. Remove air from bag, seal and cut where you want fruits. Oxygen and humidity ( temp too)are pinning triggers.

I've not found a temp drop to be important for oyster or lions mane. When the bag is covered in mycelium it's ready to fruit with those 2 species

You are quite right. I purposely left out temp drop. He was asking generalalities. Temp does affect time to pin. Usually colder= slower.

One if my first bags made on the 12th.  Only injected 2cc and had some bad seals.  Next batch is better but I kept them to learn and see how much I can salvage off fruit.  I just broke them up and shook them 3 days ago.  Should I wait for the entire bag to go white like those clumps or are those semi white spots sufficient?  Second, what's these textury parts coming off the bug clumps?  It's an oyster

Constuctive criticism. What you are saying is you put 2cc of lc into a bag of sub and are now approaching 1 month of incubation? Oysters should be fully colonized after 2 weeks or less. This is why we make grain spawn. Many inoculation points to quickly colonize and beat out other organisms. Those look patchy and my guess is have problems. Best advice is to follow proven practices.

looks like bacterial contamination, some of those textured spots look like primordia but i could be wrong. shouldve finished colonizing in about 10 days.

i dont think you need to shake sawdust bags part way thru colinization, i dont know of anyone who does that. am i wrong?

I don't shake after spawning but have probably 1000 more inoculation points.
