Cutting all the way back?
    #27132518 - 01/07/21 09:41 AM (3 years, 1 month ago)

This is probably a daft question but how far should I be cutting back after a flush?

I have left this much of the bases but should I be trying to leave nothing?

All help gratefully received

I twist and pull. I trim the butts off and save those to extract later. I've got over a pound of butts atm lol

I twist and pull PE, but, as long as you're cutting as flush with the sub as you can without damaging it, you're good.  I've read around here a lot that cutting leaves the surface in optimal conditions for the second flush as opposed to the twist and pull, but I've always just cut because it's easy to mow down a canopy with a fillet knife in a matter of minutes. I don't have X's patience

Thanks.

I'll sit this one out and maybe experiment in future with some harsher cuts and some twisty pulls

I'll just saw them off at the top of the sub with a 10' fillet knife.

I tend to notice a lot of pinning around the stumps for the second flush, which indicates to me that they somehow assist in creating a microclimate at the surface that the colony likes.

I vote for cutting, hate to rip up a good looking surface.

Cutting as close to the surface without disturbing it its the quickest way to go, and yes the stumps will aid in creating a nice microclimate for future flushes. Some varieties really grab onto the sub and will leave huge holes with the twist and pull methods others will snap off right at the surface. I don't fuck with twist and pull usually unless its my last flush and I don't care about the integrity of the sub.
