Permanent meth psychosis
    #27132281 - 01/07/21 06:38 AM (3 years, 1 month ago)

I know someone who I know was doing dope for awhile but recently in the last month they are a completely different person with a complete new personality. They are having paranoid delusions such as their phone is listening/tracking them. Also that someone is trying to kill them. This is while sober.. I also think they've been smoking crystallized wasp spray. I mentioned going to a treatment center and they are in complete denial of their addiction and just laughed. I think he may have gotten a bad batch and is fucked up for good now. Any chance to snap him out of it or is it to late?

I lived with someone like that for years and about all I could do was provide their nutrition and see that they didn't stumble over sharp objects.

I like to think that the body can heal itself over a period of weeks, but the mind may be a different story.

Meth-induced psychosis can unfortunately become recurrent, persistent, and permanent, even if a person becomes and remains abstinent.

If that is what this person is experiencing, it may be something they must deal with the rest of their life.

As far as trying to "snap" them out of it, that's not a thing in my experience. People with substance use disorders and people with mental disorders often lack insight on their conditions, and this is especially true when they are comorbid.

Try your best not to affirm their delusions without being overly confrontational, and encourage them to seek treatment, especially when they are particularly lucid and/or seem regretful and ready for change.

Yeah, I think that it's to late he seems totally delusional when I talk to him. He just lost his job and everything all at once. Sad to see. Hopefully he'll get lucid as time goes on but if he continues using I expect to see him deteriorate pretty quick.

sad to see but very common we tend to overlook meth now with all the opiate crap. I have seen people go from success to the bottom in less then 6 months on meth. Only hope you have to reach him is when there not tweaked out.

Obviously that may not happen so don't feel bad, but also don't be a enabler. You don't have to set by everyday and watch the decline you can chose to walk away. all your intentions are good and i can tell you care about them and that's awesome most would of ditched a long time ago.

I have a buddy who went through meth addiction.  He told me at one point he ate nothing but uncooked spaghetti for weeks :crazy2:

Once you've developed a psychosis, you tend to lose insight into your condition.  What's worse is that experiencing psychosis only worsens the psychosis.  It's a slippery slope for sure.

Seems
People have different mindsets, at different times.

People even have built in inner conflicts.
On the one hand kids want to grow up or get to do what big kids do.
On the other hand they want all the privileges and indulgences little ones get.

Some buy life insurance.
Some do bungee jumping.

Perhaps wisdom is not to do those things where the possible reward,
is not justified by the potentially horrible downsides. But this requires the power of reason and folks are often more emotional than reasonable.

Smoking or injecting crystallized bug spray, Fentanyl, and using meth or datura, or huffing gasoline or glue, would all seem to be some of the worse choices a person can make.

In January emergency medical personnel were called to aid a total of 17 people who were believed to have overdosed on ‘Katie’ – another mix of spice and an unknown chemical or drug – near a homeless shelter in downtown Indianapolis.
In December a Tennessee man admitted to smoking ‘wasp’ – a mix of methamphetamine and bug spray – before breaking into a home and trying to cut himself at a family’s dinner table.
Mississippi law enforcement officials warned of a dangerous drug called ‘hot shots’ last July – which requires crystallizing wasp spray with a battery before melting it down and injecting it intravenously.
‘A person will stand at a jail cell door, slobber like a mad dog, wanting to fight. Everything is wrong, nothing is right for one minute, then calm down and be just like a normal human being and then go right back into a rage,’ Monroe County Sheriff Cecil Cantrell told NewsMS about the ‘hotshot’ drug

(taken from that website)

Damn, that's just fucking crazy. I literally just saw a thread about crystallizing Raid using a car battery on here like 1 or 2 days ago, apparently to "make meth", which obviously wasn't true. It may have produced something that looked like meth, or even smoked like meth, but they definitely didn't get high like meth. Probably all they experienced from using that was the psychosis.

Re the OP & topic in general.

In one sense this is new

In another sense it's not

Some people have been "huffing" gasoline and I think some sorts of glue and ether, for who knows how many decades, in spite of the obvious dangers for years.

PCP is also known to cause psychosis or totally out of control behavior, and datura to cause hallucinations that are believed with total loss of reality contact.

And yes there are chemicals, drugs, and combinations that can cause permanent brain damage.

If one researches "Wade Davis, puffer fish poison, voodoo, zombies" there is a whole other rabbit hole one can go down as regards drugs and the brain. https://duckduckgo.com/?q=Wade+davis%2C+puffer+fish+poison%2C+voodoo%2C+zombies&t=h_&ia=web

Like wise with parasites that exercise brain control (mainly wasps, but also fungi, & toxoplasma gondii)

A virtue of growing one own etheogens, etc. is knowing what's exactly being put into the body.

Meth in regulated controlled doses has practical uses. Particularly by the military in war. However when used in an unregulated manner it may eventually cause permanent brain damage.

In the psych ward there were people who had used meth so much they were more or less finished as far as life goes. They walk around in a stupor like a really tired child, and most were probably relegated to nursing homes.

I don't know how I survived meth but I did. It may have been because I was on dopamine suppressing medication involuntarily for the 3 years I was smoking it. Pretty dumb but I was still getting high enough to want more.

It really does take over your life. Something to do with dopamine stimulation, as if everything you're looking for lies in that drug. The reward pathways...

I lost thousands of dollars and almost went bankrupt, but I was involuntarily signed up to a trustee instead.

Hey, it's a great feeling. You feel like a king. Why not? Especially if you're depressed before you start. Well, life in a sound mind, while not exhilarating, is pretty acceptable and largely what you make it. Meth is an escape, from all responsibilities, more or less like living the dream for a few hours, so why try other avenues?

Don't forget the heart will get damaged seriously also.

a big no no for recreational meth, had tried it twice during younger days didn't like the after effects, sadly have seen those long term use - drastic mood swings effect on 2 of my close relatives as well as  the hallucination specially during THE BINGE PHASE before the tweaks. couldn't agree more, growing is what I used to do now a days, seeing them grow is a rewarding pleasure, still have my cubes grown last year minus only 15 dried grams on stock, haven't took any after to this date, without the effect or feel of attach reliance nor temptation of wanting to go down the hole whenever I see the stash in the cabinet.

I have love the way this batch gives that hard jealous spanking reminder to to clean your body of other subtances & take em solely without coffee or nicotine in my part next time around.

If only coke could last for hours (without redosing every 30 mins), it would be the best

My brother now dead was a paranoid schizophrenic. I am certain it came from a lifetime of exposure to the results of his negative decisions. You cannot talk them out of this, much less help them. It sounds cruel, but they will try to take you down with them. Most of the time in extreme cases letting them drown alone is the best option for you.
