how can I get rid of used substrate?

I have just harvested the second flush and wanna replace the trays with new one, so I have 4 big trays to throw away. They have only produced 2 flushes so they're still active and if I just dump them somewhere they will fruit. And ite bad for me. How can I get rid of them ? Don't suggest go to the woods , there isn't any wood here and dont have a car Don't suggest compost them, I'm living in an apartment with police neighbours and we don't have any garden anyway. Any suggestions ?!

Either compost it and grow some plants or put it in the trash like everything else you throw away.

No fire place We have a big garbage can that all the neighbours throw their garbage there and im afraid if i throw the used subs there someone would accidentally meet a bag full of magic mushrooms and get suspicious

if I compost them there's a chance mushrooms will grow there and ill go to the jail. If I throw them in my garbage bag I'm afraid they will also grow there as they are a lot of substrate every now and then!

Your best option is likely to double bag it with some heavy duty black trash bags and throw it out in your normal apartment garbage area.
Tossing it outdoors anywhere in a city is sketchier, having to travel with it and cameras and general prohibitions against illegal dumping etc. Not recommended.
Double bagged, no one's really gonna see what's inside unless they specifically go looking. Toss it at night when no one's around, only one or two bags at a time.
I've thought about introducing contaminants as well, especially with colder temperatures here meaning clean subs tossed after 2nd flush won't decompose all too quickly. Let me know if you find a good way to do that short of throwing in some moldy bread with it.
Last choice, I found a thread a while ago that involved blending your used substrate up with water and flushing it down the toilet. Was a bit too work intensive for me on a regular basis but if you just have a few one time tubs I'd look into it.
That being said, no one's really gonna be digging through trash, I understand having snitch neighbors but who is really going through trash. As long as your shit doesn't tear apart and spill coir and grain and aborts everywhere you'll be fine tossing it as you would your normal garbage.

U could add something dry to dry out the shredded-up substrate. Sand maybe? Dry-Rid? Mushrooms need water to grow so a dry substrate is a good idea.
Use heavy-duty black trash bags and throw out when its either right before trash pick-up or right after it.

Hey thats a good idea to throw some moldy bread in there, I'm gonna prepare some haha.. Aw no flushing in the toilet is not good , its a lot of sub man and if it clumps it will make a serious problem that would involve neighbours. Double bag with a moldy bread and one hour before the garbage truck arrives

Yeah I was also thinking about drying it to the point where its impossible for them to grow , tried to heat the shredded sub in a large pot but mam it produced the most nastiest smell ever haha.. it was like smelling a huge fire of plastic ! The sand is a good idea but it makes it heavier and it is heavy enough right now.

Ok don't flush shit down toilets, for real. If you have septic tanks that could be very troublesome with inappropriate wastes. In the city various wastes aren't to be added to the sewers either.
The best way to deal with spent subs, that aren't moldy, is to recycle it in oyster bags. Thats what my spent sub mountain is for. Got a wheelbarrow full.

At this point all you can do it eat the substrate with dinner over a few evenings. Then it will just go down the toilet as Poop and you will get more bang for your buck!

You can just leave it on your counter and make it a little extra moist. Or you can look into other foods that mold faster when left out. Also what about mixing the sub with bleach or some chemical to just kill it?

Dinner is used substrate as u suggested, and its alooot lol, then we should go to the toilet in terns and poop Yeah killing the myc is even a better idea, I tried to do that by heating it but what a nasty smell . Maby spraying some bleach over shredded sub can do the trick ?!

I could only imagine what cooking it would smell like last resort would probably to just let it sit in the open air in the sun to let it dry out lol. But I feel like some chemicals or contam and tossing it right before the trash gets picked up is your best bet. With apartments it’s pretty easy to figure when the guy comes. Especially if it’s a row of apartments and your trash is one of the lasts to get picked up

If it's that big of a deal shred it and pour a little bleach, double bag it. Anyone that finds that mess will think it's kitty litter or something and never mess with another trash bag again. Throw it out whenever, after the shred and bleach it's dead and looks like tidy cat.

Dump a bunch of cat litter in the bag. Unless you are already under investigation, no one is going to dig through cat litter. Doesn't even need to be used, but it would be much cooler if it was!

How many carrier pigeons do you have access to? They could be trained to deposit small amounts of the substrate throughout the city.

Given your location and paranoia I would double down on the recycle approach. Chicken fried oysters are amazing.

Here's my method. I used to wait till I had a bunch of used subs and bag them up and take them to friends house with yards. This gets old, and if you have nosey neighbors there gonna think your jeffrey dahmer. I have homeless people digging through my trash regularly so if I throw out its day of pick up, an hour or so before. If your gonna go trash route, do one at a time broken up in your trash. Throw kitty litter on it. No one will think other wise. Just do a sub at a time discreetly. Ive definatly been lugging out bags of 20+ subs at a time. It looks weird, and sucks. Just be discreet. But break them up in the garbage bag and you'll be alright.
