BRF jars losing volume * 1
    #27131446 - 01/06/21 07:23 PM (3 years, 22 days ago)

So I'm doing standard 2:1:1 BRF jars with about a tbsp. of gypsum per 6 jars. After sterilizing I seem to lose volume and they drop almost 1/4 inch. Then the dry verm layer seems to drop down the sides. You cant really tell in the pic, but it looks like the cake is pulling in from the sides. Any ideas what I am doing wrong? I loosely fill them and add the dry verm layer to the very top. Should I pack down the BRF a little? I am at day 12 with no contam, but also no rhizomorphic patterns yet, just a little "cottony" growth around inoc sites. Any help or advice is appreciated.

YES, when you make your cakes you dont't pack them just kinda slightly drop to pack, almost like a pack of cig's but not as hard.

So tap the jars down a bit with the brf mix? like, tap the base of the jar on the table or press it down from the top? Could I be sterilizing too long (I did almost 3 hours, but it was in an instant pot so I wanted to just in case)

Tap the base on the counter so it settles well. Sterilizing shouldn't cause this problem.
