PmP vs Monotube - Old timmer trying to get back into the game.

Hello everyone.
After about a 15 years hyatus from my cultivation days, I decided to get back into the game this year.
Of course the first thing I did was to come here and reactivate my Shroomery account. This forum was the main source of information for me back then, and I am really glad to see the community booming with activity.
Now, on my first hours digging through all the new info around, the main "new thing" that I have found is the widespread use of them called Monotubes. Now I am trying to decide on what route to follow on my new setup build. Back in my day I made a PmP that served me fine, as you can see by the pictures.

What I liked about my PmP is that it kept the moisture high and the air was exchanged constantly, two things crucial for the frutification.
From a few posts that I've checked out I see some people considering this an outdated technique, that has been replaced by the monotube.
I understand that the monotube is easy and practical for a beginner, for it uses only that one container for everything. But it seems that for it to be ideal you'd need to upgrade it with a humidifier and a little fan for optimal air exchange. And then, considering those upgrades, it ceases to be cheaper or easier when compared with a PmP...
Am I missing something here? Is there any other benefit to the monotube that I am overlooking?
Thank you very much, and glad to be back.

PMP is overkill and fickle, that's why no one uses them anymore. Just run a mono or unmod and it has plenty of fae & humidity.

Hey junkaboy, always good to see people make their way back.
I used to use a PMP waaay back in the day but monotubs are really where it's at. They're just too easy. It will keep a perfect environment for you and cubes don't need that amount of air turn over.
I'd hold on to it, though. Might be nice if you wanted to grow some pan cyans.

I’m glad you asked this as I’m in the exact position you’re in. Instead I just started reading and have been trying to catch up for a few months until I was ready. The way we used to do it back then was a lot more complicated and required a lot more attention. Unfortunately I liked it that way. I liked the automation aspect of it. I’m still not sure about monotubs but from the way people talk about it they must be tons better.
I take my enjoyment from the journey not necessarily the end result. I’m a little bummed they have made it so easy lol

Thanks a lot for all the answers. I will keep reading up on the new ideas around.
My agar plates arrived today and the spores are ready to go, so I still got plenty of time to figure out what route I will take as far as fruiting goes.
