Blue meanies? ID please!
    #27129652 - 01/06/21 04:10 AM (3 years, 22 days ago)

Thanks everyone for your advice on my prev post, ditched them and went looking again today.
Have some that are bruising blue now but not 100% on the type they are. They're quite small. Thinking blue meanies? Unsure if they're all the same, some seem lighter than others (some cream, some greyish) and one or two have quite distinct blue bruising but not all.
Located in decaying pine forest amongst ferns in NSW, Australia.

Mycena sp.  not active.  You won’t find blue meanies (Panaeolus cyanescens) in pine forest unless there is some dung present.  Stick to the livestock fields for blue meanies, and hunt for Psilocybe subaeruginosa in the pine forests in your area.  Happy hunting! :sporedrop:

I would say it's Mycena sp. Mycena leptochephala possibly.

Ahh I see thankyou!
They were found where wild hogs had dug up mostly, but this pine forest is within property where there are livestock as well.
Some tops are turning pretty blue or have a blue rim?! Could it be some are different or all seem Mycena?

Whenever is possible, you should do a spore print. Help us help you identify mushrooms.
That blue looks like coloration, not bruising caused by psilocin oxidation.
I think it's just younger specimen of Mycena sp.

Edit: i see you uploaded one more picture, showing even blue color on the stem.
Looks interesting for sure, possibly mycena, but i will get on this case

Have moved them under glass and onto their gills for the spore printing! Will let you know what I find tomorrow! If Mycena they should be white

What Im sure now, it is blue staining Mycena. It is beautiful.
Could be Mycena cyanorrhiza or M.sanguinolenta.
I will wait for a spore print just to be sure.

Please google blue staining Mycena and research hard. Compare with your specimen. It is probably not psychoactive, but for some of us interested in Mycology this is more than cool find.

I'm actually super curious how the spore prints turn out. I was looking at local area guides and apparently some have been query Panaeolus foenisecii and Panaeolus Olivaceus. Never confirmed but spore prints were real dark.
I'm not desperate for a high, I have no issue spending the time researching etc!
Will update if there's any colour on the prints!

Yes , there is quite a debate about blue staining Mycenas and their psychoactivity.
Some claim they are active, some claim otherwise.

Also wait for them to dry to see if the blue color dissappears.

They probably contain muscarine, so don't jump on them. Save all specimens.

Hopefully someone will chime in on this case as well, nice find indeed.

Update: Dark spore prints.
Most came back without a spore print so must've been too dry.
Only two came back and they were the largest ones I had.
Mycena have white spore prints, so unsure what's going on!!
