Are reconditioned 55-gallon stainless-steel barrels okay for a steam sterilizer?

Found a supplier who has 55 gallon stainless-steel barrels, but they are reconditioned. The supplier doesn't know what material was in the barrels before they received them. Would they be okay to use for a steam sterilizer? Or would a new steel (not stainless) or HDPE barrel be a better choice?

Im basing this off gut instinct but i dont think any residue or film on the barrel will get into the bags and contaminate them with chemicals. If the price was right i would jump on a SS barrel. give it a good cleaning and should be good to go. where are you finding reconditioned units at?

they will be fine reconditioned. I just don't know why you would be paying for stainless I have had my drum for 3 years with no leaks yet and it is just a metal drum when I have to do another one I will just mix silicone with mineral spirits and paint the drum and it will last even longer. But I guess if you have the money go for it.

The reconditioned SS is only around $120 with a lid and lock ring. The regular steel barrels they have are painted on the inside, and I thought that paint was an issue?

The paint is not an issue mine is painted but for $120 save yourself the trouble and just buy it. I had no idea you could get them for that price. I am going to start looking around here. If you could send me the link to where you are getting them.
