NaCl and blobing, salt from coir
    #27129371 - 01/05/21 09:49 PM (3 years, 23 days ago)

hear more people getting blobs now adays and suspecting genetics (of course much is genetics), however it lines up with the increase in coir and straight coir and just hydrating coir and not rinsing. not scientific of course but have noticed in MS to see blobs when dont rinse. this is VERY much just a theory as do not have numbers nor isolates to have any actual evidence.

love to hear folks thoughts if that may be part of the issue of the blob....

Eh I'm not convinced it's because of salt.

I buy horticultural coir which is marketed as having a very low to no salt content and what not and still get blobs.

My last pe grow blobbed up pretty bad even with the no sodium coir.

I think the issue has more to do with high nutrition at the pinning site which
is why a casing layer helps so much with blob mitigation. Obviously genetic as well.

would be interesting to see a normally blobing clone(perhaps besides PE) with peat instead   your likely correct, and maybe isnt correlated with increase coir use but perhaps more pseudo or precasing..

have never seen tests but nacl isnt huge deal in coir even horticultural as one watering its depleted.
