Cockroach cordyceps?
    #27127687 - 01/05/21 07:59 AM (3 years, 1 month ago)

Hi there,

I just found this cockroach. It looks like something is growing out of it.
Is this some type of cordyceps?

Definitely an egg case, I'm from Florida, the North American cockaroach should be the state bird!!! I've seen my share of them to recognize it on sight, to the point I would bet money on it.

Belive it or not, you can buy freeze dried roaches and other insects for consumption,  not something I care for unless it's all there is or will be.

I think the specimen on the left is Periplaneta americana, but I could be wrong. You should wait for a ti.

Also I wonder, is it dead, or is it just, asleep ?

Roaches don't sleep on their backs,  guarantee its dead!!! It's either like you said. The American cockaroach or it is the Palmetto cockaroach.

Maybe it's drunk ?
I would not touch it or disturb it, maybe it will suddenly woke up and bite you op. Also those eggs could hatch, destroy them before that.
Stay safe op.

American & German cockroaches don't have black abdomens, that's an oriental cockroach.

You wake up. The room is spinning very gently round your head. Or at least it would be if you could see it which you can't.
It is pitch black.

We have an Asian cockaroach but I've never seen or heard of an oriental cockaroach and the Asian looks nothing like this, they look more like the German cockaroach but larger, can fly and lives mostly outdoors.

Edit: the abdomen will appear dark brown or blackish if it's aged and drying out
