My drill battery is dead and i dont want to spend 100 $ on a new drill just to put a whole in a lid.
So, what do i do?
While we at it, what is the best material to plug the whole for air exchange??

You could use an old screwdriver and a hammer instead. I've done that in the past, remember to flip the lid upside down and put some spare wood under it or you'll bend the lid. Polyfill works fine if you stuff it correctly, fold it up, pull it through till it's tight, then snip /burn any loose bits off. Polyfill is everywhere, no need to buy it. Just chop up a cheap pillow or stuffed toy.

For a mason lid I literally just puncture it with a nail and cover it with on layer of micropore tape to keep out contams. For plastic lids I melt a couple small holes into them. Sand them down, cover with micropore tape for contams.

I do the same with jars. Just use a real small screwdriver and pound a hole in the BRF jar lids.
