I tend to think streaming is a waste of time compared to getting a digital copy seeing as you're downloading it one way or another. Not everything is downloadable, or streamable, but I get basically everything I can/want. I justify my pirating by purchasing stuff I downloaded periodically. I keep redundant drives in case of failures.

What about ironic hard drives instead of redundant?

Streaming takes the same amount of time as watching the movie though. I see no downside to re-watching the same thing on Netflix. If my ISP charged extra for the traffic then sure. I have no patience for those scammy pirate streaming sites though, those are definitely a waste of time.

Yeah I don't have the best internet currently, which probably makes a difference but I've always thought that too.. I've been pirating since I was 15 I think. Streaming can be great, I have a Netflix subscription, but the smaller sites can be pretty crap even if they seem to be the only way to watch some things. Can't pirate everything. Would if I could though.

https://www.gnu.org/philosophy/words-to-avoid.html#Piracy

Quote:

Publishers often refer to copying they don't approve of as “piracy.” In this way, they imply that it is ethically equivalent to attacking ships on the high seas, kidnapping and murdering the people on them. Based on such propaganda, they have procured laws in most of the world to forbid copying in most (or sometimes all) circumstances. (They are still pressuring to make these prohibitions more complete.)

If you don't believe that copying not approved by the publisher is just like kidnapping and murder, you might prefer not to use the word “piracy” to describe it. Neutral terms such as “unauthorized copying” (or “prohibited copying” for the situation where it is illegal) are available for use instead. Some of us might even prefer to use a positive term such as “sharing information with your neighbor.”

A US judge, presiding over a trial for copyright infringement, recognized that “piracy” and “theft” are smear words.
