I have always run the same ole 1 gram lme per 600 ML well water. Might have to try a 1 - 4 % for myself.
Any one have issues with semi long term storage with the higher nutrient content ?
Easily solved by stomping it down I guess.

I wish my 4% ME LC looked like this. I always get sediment when I go above 1.5%

2.5% 1.5% 2% in that order.

You can see the sediment pre inoculation on the bottom pic

I had some sediment. Now the myc has/had some sediment. I will note that I used massive wedges, like bigger than quarters in each bottle.

Yeah, it's actually pretty sweet watching the myc eat up the sediment.

You can see it in the 2.5% I posted and I imagine it'll take to it the same in the 2%. Just wondered how other people dealt with or had problems with it as well.

1 cm chunks in the mini mudas above.

I been having amazing results with 4% broth.

1000ml. water
20g. malt extract
20g. dextrose

I have 23 jars going now with 145ml. per jar.

140ml. broth and 5ml. lc added to expand.

Also I have 2000ml. of broth under a vacuum ready to be use to expand.

I have found It to be convenient after I pull off two 60ml. syringes
from my jar is to add broth to the jar for expansion.

These two pics. of this jar was started 11-30-20.. On 1-1-21 I pulled off 120ml. and then added  120ml. broth.. Notice how clear the lc. is.

The older the lc the more clear It gets.

This lc was an experiment. 12-30-20 I used a microwave oven instead of using the pc.

I put a sandwich bag over the jar. (the bag helped keep any contaminates from going into the jar) and zap it for 3min. let It set for 3min. zap It again for 1min. let It set for another 3min.

I pulled the metal cap out of a pot with boiling water and screwed It onto the jar. So far the lc. look's fine.

Im thinking bout buying a pipette. Used one in high school to count bacteria. Seem like I'd have to hold it properly or something but it would be so accurate in dispensing.

My broth is wonderfully opaque after a swirl then clearly transparent after fully settled. Once it gets a good bit thicker and the broth clearbin color I'll shake it like champagne before dispersing into bags of oats. Maybe 12 bags out of each bottle.

Question for you guys, I have some some LC that I was growing out with kind of “blob” formations of mycelium floating in the liquid. I threw it on my stir plate to shred them up so it would have more surface area and continue to colonize a bit faster. Now they’re much more “wispy”. How long should I wait for it to recover before I use it to inoculate grain/sub bags? Do I even need to wait?

Nope I always blow mine up right before using them to get them nice and mixed.

Violent swirling usually does it. The myc usually reminds me of little bits of shredded paper floating around.

Perfect! I have some grain in my PC right now and I was hoping I could use some of this LC tomorrow once its cool.

Another question, have you guys ever had your LC just not work? I have a bunch of different varieties in LC growing in my super cold garage (Mid 50s) and on 3 recent occasions I've inoculated substrate bags and grain just to have them do *nothing*. The LCs look super clear and healthy so I don't think that's the issue, but I'm having trouble figuring out what is. I'm thinking maybe I need to move the inoculated bags somewhere warmer and/or test my LCs on agar. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Only once with a king oyster lc that had the sneakiest bacteria I’ve ever seen riding along. It kinda fuzzed up enough to see where the myc caught on the grain but that was it, never spread.

What are your guys thoughts about going straight to hydrated PCed dowels with LC for woodlovers. My first instinct tells me to go to grain first, but I'm wondering if anyone has tried it.

I would expect it to be a proper time save by avoiding the grain colonization. Some semi-solid inoculant soubds perfect IMO.

Hey PitcherCrab..

All 3 of my 6lb. grain/substrate bags failed to mold (cobweb mold)

So I went to soaking just the grain with lc. and having success.

I did a write up on It If your Interested..

Wow, thats crazy! So you don’t even PC your grain? I may have to give it a go at some point.

So far all my sub bags have failed. I have made 4 13lb bags of coir, grain and bran. Of the 4, 1 I lost to spiderweb, 2 I lost to green mold and one didn’t do anything at all. I tried to re-inoculate a couple of those which I think introduced the green mold. Not sure what’s going on, but my track record is terrible so far with LC straight to sub bags. I’m most baffled that there isn’t any mycelium growth at all once I inoculate with my LC. Guess I’m just gonna keep trying until something sticks.

On the up side, I just inoculated a bunch of oat bags with a few different LC’s, so I should get better insight into what’s happening. Hopefully I don’t loose all of them to contams lol. It wouldn’t be the first time its happened to me with LC.

My oats are in the pot from start to finish 36 min. 20 some min. In boiling water. I doubt that any contaminates will survive. Using oats I don't think endospores would be a factor..

Anyway I just cut few weeks off my growing time by not growing spawn jars/bags.

I already harvest my first bag and have four bags at 10 days now ready to put in fruiting mode.. They're all very healthy looking.

100% colonize In 9 days Without spawn..(4 bags)

9 days ago the coir was In a 10 lb. block the vermiculite was still In the bag and the oats was In boiling water...

I have 6 bags I started 9 days ago that I used colonize jars of oat spawn and they are lagging by 3-4 days.

These 4 bags are the no spawn.
