Top left (and all over) = Knotting.  Maintain conditions and primordia should follow.

Bottom right = uncolonized substrate.  Probably fine.  Unless it's manure then you'll likely wish it were colonized.  If it's coir then it'll just function as casing.

I dunno upon further inspection it looks like he's got straw in the substrate, and uncolonized straw is gonna make problems.

I can't see any straw. If there is straw, than it would matter more if it was properly pasteurized, it could still be colonizing a bit.

Yeah I really can't tell what his substrate is.  Based on the fact part of it is knotting I assume it's done colonizing, though.

I think its coir and you're seeing strands of coco fiber.

Can't see knots, but the uncolonized portion doesn't look concerning to me.

Yep, agreed.  If it's coir/verm it's good to go.  Only concerns were if it wasn't.

Between the fuzzy pic and my eyes I can't see them. Knots look like little white balls. Gotta trust innocule on this bit.

The pic is terrible but I can't see anything alarming other than that surface doesn't look conducive to a healthy pinset. Conditions are probably off and maybe the spawn wasn't the best either. What was your process?

the two corners could be from uneven FAE in the lid design. My shoebox lids get a little bent sometimes and will occasionally have corner patches that get more or less FAE and the myc reacts accordingly

Isn't knotting where the mycelium begins to bunch up in those higher density sections?  This usually precludes the formation of the primordia which are the little white dots, no?  Maybe I've been misunderstanding it this whole time.

My understanding is knot is a synonym for hypheal knot, and pretty much synonym for primordia. But primordia more like when the knot begins to form into a pin.

I could be a little off here but i'm fairly confident it's not about the myc bunching. Maybe we can get a tie breaker to chime in?

Well I've noticed the morphology of mycelium changes around where it's about to start showing the primordia and I thought that's what constituted knotting.  If not then I'd be happy to amend my knowledge on the subject.

Here I am, one day in, proving I don't deserve the tag.
