This is a common conundrum - to fear getting emotionally close to someone while at the same time feeling isolated and not connected to people. You can be close to someone without opening up about the details of your past, which for you is associated with guilt and shame. You say you get dates easily. Maybe your standards are too high. Or maybe you should skip any idea of romance right now and focus on friendship - that eliminates the possibility of social awkwardness and the self loathing that comes with the romance "didn't work out." Take failure out of the equation. A friendly lunch is just a lunch.
