Strangers paying for your groceries/etc, helping out others..... 1

Yesterday a lady paid for my groceries.
I was at the register and counting out some coins/change so I had the exact amount to pay and the lady that was behind me in the line told the clerk to put my groceries on her receipt and that she would pay for them.
Maybe the lady saw me counting out coins and thought I was tight on money ? Which is true, I am...I did have the money to pay for my groceries but I am just barely getting by right now.
I was kinda caught off guard and didn't know what to say or how to react. I think at first I let her know that I had the money on hand to pay for it and that she didn't need to do that, but she insisted and wasn't accepting a "No" from me lol. As someone that has a lot of trouble expressing and conveying my feelings in language/words I couldn't explain to her how much I appreciated her and her generosity.
I wanted to give her a big hug so badly and I almost did out of impulse at first, but considering the virus and not knowing how a "stranger" would react to a big hug from another I didn't....But I wanted to convey to her how much I genuinely appreciated her and her kindness, I'm bad at using language/words and feel they just don't do it. I felt frustrated and even a bit anxious after that I wasn't able to convey my appreciation to her beyond some spoken words. (but I also felt warm & glad about such generosity from another)
Has this happened to anyone else before?...Or does anyone here ever do things like that to help others or just random gifts/acts of kindness towards total random strangers?
I can't wait to be in a better position in life and I dream of making enough $ some day so I can help people out with little things like that lady did. And sometimes not even necessarily for the sake of "helping out" another, sometimes just for the sake of giving a random little "gift" to total strangers (like paying for other peoples food in a line of cars at a fast-food drive through, or paying the check for another table at a restaurant, etc). If I'm ever financially stable enough I'll be doing stuff like that regularly year round, as well as things like Asante has done with helping get wells/water available to those that need it in other parts of the world.
Also things like asking homeless people/folks on the streets if there are some little things that they need other than $ or food, taking them to a Thriftstore for some "new" clothes/shoes, maybe they need some new tires/tubes or tools for a bike, a new tent, a small camping stove, maybe they need a ride or a bus ticket to get somewhere closer to family, etc etc etc.
I don't kno where I was going with this thread, kinda just a ramble about my feels.

Hey,
good you felt that way, it means you are a good person!
I had that thing happen when i was a kid once. It kinda turned me upside down, i didnt learn to be like that. Not that my parents were heartless or anything, we just didnt have the money to do things like that.
Im not a super generous person, but i am trying to be really helpful to people that i notice needing help. I think that old lady kinda shifted me into being like that. Id like to think so anyway.

yeah a member on the shroomery bought me a $150 sweater last winter, I made a thread asking if I should go in debt $100 to get a sweater thats good to -15C that I really wanted, I had already made up my mind that I was going to do it, but I just made the thread to see if people think I should, and a member offered to buy it for me, its my favourite sweater, I already knew it was good, I had one 2 winters ago, but I didnt know it wasnt machine dryable and I shrunk my first one, so the one a shroomrite bought me last winter hasnt touched the dryer and I wear it every day during the winter, I dont even use a jacket, the sweater is warm enough

I've had people in line before me at drive-thrus pay for my meal. That is always a good feeling. I've done some nice stuff but don't want to go into it, I always feel like a humblebragging jerkface when I talk about that stuff.
Edit: I will say helping out just doesn't have be money, lots of places you can donate your time like food pantries, animal shelters and all that good stuff. It really makes you feel better about yourself (at least for me) knowing that I was able to help someone.

Years ago I gave away a bunch of mushroom cultures. One shroomerite gifted me a supporter account. Then that person started badmouthing me because I wasn't thankful enough? Whatever... Sometimes gifting is selfless. Sometimes it is misguided.

Gotta balance out all that card sharking karma
Indeed, though most of my sharking is in underground games, mostly run by very dangerous gangs (used to be the Mafia 20 years ago, if they caught you cheating they'd take your money and bust you up good, but these new guys will put a bullet in you and chop you into pieces and dump you in the ocean) so I really don't feel I get much negative karma cheating these monsters as it comes with significant risk. This has been exacerbated by covid-19 with many card places shut down, the large underground games are often the only ones.
As far as cheating at a Casino, it's pretty limited, the eye in the sky doesn't miss much. They typically hire former cheaters to catch the current ones, and if you get caught it's usually the state police, charges and lifetime ban.

I remember a situation where a nearly broke Shroomerite couldnt really cook given his expenses, so another Shroomerite donated him a slowcooker/crockpot so that an electric outlet was all he needed to make healthier cheaper home cooked meals at home.
That was very awesome.

There is this weird tradition here where people at Tim Horton's drive throughs will sometimes pay for the next person's order, seemingly with the expectation that they will continue this with the next person. Sometimes it will go on for a long chain of people. Doesn't seem like it is really about helping anyone though.
