I would do it in moderation. But have you tried the Patagonian shrimp?

I've heard ALL shrimp have high mercury content. Not sure of the validity of that statement or the random source online but I would definitely do more research before eating shrimp.
I like the smell of the ocean, but seafood sort of just smells like a public bathroom at the beach. Like, the ocean mixed with that nasty sour fermented piss smell.
Salmon smells the worse. Jesus fucking christ. Smaller crustaceans don't smell good either.

Humans have been seeping mercury and various other toxins into the ocean for a really long time now. There have been a lot of oil spills. Some animals act as a scavenger. They pray on the very bottom of the ocean. Those are filter fish. They tend to be quite dirty compared with other things. That digestive tract concentrates the toxins. Examples of this are shellfish and bivalves.

Shrimp are generally considered low-mercury seafood, because mercury bioaccumulates up the food chain.
So shrimp bivalves actually have relatively low mercury levels, marine apex predators like tuna, swordfish, and shark, tend to have much higher levels.
Shrimp are considered low mercury enough to be safely consumed on a daily basis. As where canned tuna is recommended to be limited to 12oz a week for adult men, and significantly less for children and pregnant women.

Toxins doesn’t need to be relegated to mercury. I was thinking more of the oil spills.
I just tend to not eat very much seafood. I eat it once in a while. Maybe once every couple months.

That's the same area I'm talking about right? Is it different than the red shrimp? Patagonia is pretty much the same as south Argentina and Chile right?
No I don't think I have

I think it might be the same stuff. But the bag I was thinking of just literally said Patagonian shrimp on it. People described it as being slightly sweet. I was always interested, but never got to try it.

Sounds right. The mercury also accumulates in the fatty tissue of the fish, so when I'm eating fish I always remove the dark meat. Shrimp, and Sardines too are low mercury seafood. There's some other fish that are super high mercury I forget. I think Chilean Seabass is on the list, and one called "Tile" fish is high mercury too I think.

Yeah, I'm not worried about these Argentine shrimps at all compared to a tuna steak.

What's really messed up is the local lakes around here have an advisory too for some chemical I can't think of that gets into the fish in freshwater lakes. Mercury too, but it's like some chemical from people dumping the byproduct of plastic production or something? But yeah, it's sad you can't go eating fish from a freshwater lake in America without having to worry about this stuff.

It’s a filter fish. You understand why I’m worried about the impact of an oil spill on the quality of shrimp. I literally watched the price of all shrimp products at fast food places and grocery stores drop significantly when that happened. It really grossed me out. Like popcorn shrimp was going for a third the price it was before.
I wonder why.
That said, though. Every now and then I do really enjoy some shrimp.

It's all about cooking it right. I turn my oven to 400, and in a glass pyrex dish I combine alive oil, lemon juice and diced garlic... The secret is to only bake for like 5 minutes take out and let rest for one minute and serve/eat right away. Overcooked shrimp is rubbery, but undercooked could mean sickness. So if you're worried always use a food temp to get it up to 145 degrees internally I think is the temp for shrimp. Pork is 165 I think? I could be way off here but it's something like that.

Yeah, I knew about that deadzone thing, but didn't know this. Here is what AI says about it
Quote:
The "dead zone" in the Gulf of Mexico refers to an area of low or hypoxic oxygen levels in the water, which can negatively impact marine life. The size of the dead zone can vary from year to year due to factors such as weather conditions, nutrient runoff, and water circulation patterns.
As of my last knowledge update in January 2022, I don't have the specific size information for the current year's dead zone. The size of the dead zone is typically measured in terms of the area's extent, usually reported in square miles or square kilometers.

The oil forms a layer on the ocean bed almost like a broken street. It’s just a solid chunk of old oil that’s hardened.

By far. Crab are around long enough to pick up some toxins in the fatty tissues especially since they bottom feed.
Shrimp also hang out near the bottom sometimes and filter feed, but it's a little different. I also think Crabs live longer too? giving them more time to build toxins.

If you want clean food, grow it yourself. Now's a good time to start from seed indoors and move them outside when it warms up Kale and spinach are so easy to grow and very nutritionally dense. Tomatoes are really easy as well and none of it takes up much room Sometimes we use kale, flour, and egg to make green noodles then use it in homemade chicken soup
Also, grow and eat lots of cilantro. It's a natural way to remove heavy metal like mercury from the body

Great advice about the cilantro. They call the effect of Cilantro "chalating" I think, but at a smaller scale than in a medical setting. Lots of info out there on it. Chlorella also helps chelate heavy metals out too.
