The world isn't actually as bad as it seems, we just hear about more of the bad stuff because we are more connected.

You could’ve had your grocery set in front of the store for you, so you just walked in and paid for your stuff walked out. Instead, I just see this dog sniffing around in the meat department. It’s not even the dogs fault. It’s owner just brought it into a meat department.
They should be allowed to bring their dog but you should be allowed to beat them over the back of the head with a frozen turkey if they do.

This is actually a proven statistic. News stories seem to get the most views when it’s dealing with dangerous or upsetting subject matter. There’s something that draws people towards these macabre stories. Maybe they view it as a learning experience. Maybe it’s an opportunity to feel like you’re better off than someone.
Regardless, we end up with far fewer good stories because of it. Sometimes the news will even exaggerate some thing like :2010 Winter disaster!: Then you get barely 2 inches of snow. There needs to be more journalistic integrity. There also should be a better spread of information. That’s why this sites great. I get to hear about somebody getting bear maced, then buying people chocolate bars. Good news for a change.

I think its probably a behavioral holdover from our not all that distant past.
its only been the past 200 years or so with the invention of the telegram that it was even possible to be receiving any meaningful amount of news from outside your immediate area in a short enough time frame for it to actually be relevant. (and its only increased exponentially since then)
Before that though, even with the more robust postal services in history (us postal service back when it was still good, like pony express era. the roman postal system, the mongol postal system etc.) the majority of the news that you would hear, would be coming from a couple towns over at best. so if something dangerous or horrible is happening, your gonna pay more attention to it, because it probably -does- affect either you, or someone you know.
You hear about a murderer on the loose, well your gonna pay attention cuz that was just one town over, they very well -could- hit your town next, or could be hiding out there. or going further back, little jimmy from the tribe over the hill got mauled by a lion, well thats information that you -need- to be paying attention to, cuz now you know there is a child mauling lion in the area and you need to be extra cautious.
couple hundred millenia of that, and yeah it just becomes an ingrained survival behavior to pay more attention to that sort of news, cuz up until recently it more often than not -did- represent an actual threat to your safety. Especially compared to the news that frank and martha from down the street just had a baby... yeah, thats awesome news, good for them... doesn't actually affect your life directly all that much though.

I agree that is true to an extent. I feel like people need to pay a little more attention to the world stage. That way we can support things that matter. Without it having to directly affect us yet. Tiananmen Square is a perfect example. People that just came from mainland China. Have not heard of this. At all. We can’t let that kind of disinformation or information suppression stand. That’s why it’s great that we can hear about stories that happened on the other side of the world. Mahsa Amini for instance. I talked to people about that. I wanted people to know about what they were going through and what their government does to them. Because people don’t care if it doesn’t directly affect them. But they could really use our help.
But that’s just me though. I’m really empathetic. I want to teach people. The news can certainly get dark though. So I don’t blame people for not wanting to consume it.

Sure. Just beat the shit out of it and cut it into small pieces. Maybe marinate it in something acidic. Bam, you've got primo taco meat

I actually -prefer- tough cuts of steak... its still delicious regardless of if its tough or melts in your mouth, but with a good tough steak you get to savor that flavor for far longer.

That’s why I started that graems thread. I have something in my journal where I’ve been collecting all of them. It was totally worth going back for these.
