I did spray the whole room with Lysol. I cleaned the whole room with antibacterial wipes first. I used a spore syringe to innoculate 12 jars that I had prepared four days earlier. There were no signs of contams before I innoculated. I used the PF style jars. The jars had a 1/4 inch vermiculite topping and a Al. foil topping over that but under the lid.

What I am really looking for is a source to identify the bacteria either on the net or a book.

Hey McMan, I did everything as normal. I have actually never lost a jar before. Now 100%, I am a little worried about that. What would constitute a poor preparation?

Where did you get the syringe? Have you contacted the vendor? How did you sterilize your substrate?

Most likely a contaminated syringe. It likes to parasitize the spores of mushrooms and then when you innoculate, boom, it has all that substrate to itself. If they are your spores, then clean up your cropping and printing practices. If they came from a vendor, bitch. If they came from the free spore ring, then that just sucks because you can't really do anything.

I sterilized using a regular canning pot (not a pressure canner) and boiled the covered jars for an hour. I did contact the vendor via email last Thursday and explained exactly what happened. They ("the chicks") have not responded yet.
