How would I bake a WHOLE Apple by itself?
    #27121398 - 01/02/21 02:37 AM (2 months, 2 days ago)

How would you bake a whole Apple leaving the core intact? The only recipes I can find add other ingredients and core it but I just want a straight up basic baked whole Apple. Should I poke it with a fork first? Wrap it in aluminum foil? I usually make boiled apples but I need to start saving water. Some fruits and vegetables are better when baked whole also, such as eggplant and pumpkin. I think apples would be delightful baked with the entire thing still intact.

Cover it in butter, poke a few holes in it and loosely wrap in foil.

Bake at 350° for about 30-45 mins. Check it after 30 mins to see if it's at the consistency you want, if not let it go a little longer.

Is butter absolutely necessary? I'd rather have plain apples.

Oops, I didn't read the first post. I might try this in a pressure cooker, poking a couple of holes in the top of the apple.

I've heard of baking apples wrapped in pie crust, cored and filled with raisins, cinnamon and nutmeg with pat of butter. I guess it could be done without the spices, and skip coring the apple. Just wrapped in pie shell. One fave recipe of mine is with pears, lay flat in pan, fill with cranberry juice and bake, till soft.
