Problem on B+ inoculated PF-pot?
    #27120806 - 01/01/21 07:25 PM (1 month, 23 days ago)

Hi everyone,

I'm new to the forum, and a complete beginner with mushrooms!
I inoculated this pot about 5 weeks ago. I did not make the pot myself, but ordered a ready-to-inoculate PF pot online. Out of three, it's the only one who got colonised! Quite desperate for it to work but... things are starting to look a bit odd. I was planning to birth the cake in 2/3 days: how does this look to you? Is this contamination, or pins starting to form? Is it pinning in vitro?

What would be the safest, most fool-proof way forward? birthing the cakes or letting it fruit from the pot directly? Of course, a big flush would be nice, but at this point I am mostly concerned about getting something at all. Happy to leave more efficient methods for the future.

Thanks in advance for any help!
Best

Dolce

This one looks fine. As long as you can get atleast 1 fruit you can print it for spores and do the whole procedure yourself. Premade things can sometimes be botched so the more control you have in the process the better.

Since it's just one cake i'd reccomend top fruiting.

Yeay, thanks for quick reply! I just bought a pressure cooker, and have some spore syringes left, so more is coming under better controlled circumstances.

Besides: what do you do with the cakes once they have fruited? Can you propagate the mycelium further to make a new cake, or onto a different medium?

After each flush you can dunk it and let it fruit again. They can go for a couple flushes before eventually giving in to contams.
If you're trying to propagate more myc, you're way better off cloning a good fruit to agar than trying to clean up myc growth from the cake.
Spent cakes and substrates make great food for compost and can give you outdoor fruits if conditions are right.
