I've largely given up on finding ovoids in Southern New England- mushroomobserver only has a couple observations- anyone finding these in CT or RI? Would love to see them

If you want to find them It would be easier driving to pa or Jersey instead of hunting in areas where there is much less... or almost none at all

Yeah its worth the trip if you go peak season in the spring, if you can make a trip out of it and stay for awhile, Pennsylvania is very pretty in the spring. Could also try DC area as they flush pretty hard too

I have a few popping in a flower pot.
It doesn't make much sense considering i just setup that flower pot a few weeks ago with the intent of keeping inside this winter. Its all fresh wood chips with just a hand full of infected material.

I've found them in mulch in CT, but they're pretty rare here. For a higher change of success you could head down to PA or NJ like others said.

If you want to find ovoids in the fall you gotta look for the Susquehanna variety with the dome shaped caps that grow mainly off of logs. Those tend to be pretty prolific in the fall.

Do you think the conditions have been good so far in the Mid-Atlantic area for fruiting in the Fall? Thanks

Yeah we got some fruits and pins here in the mulch beds but haven't seen too much action in the plains.

Thanks for the heads up. I am going to try and check out some of the woods near a creek by my house today. Do they tend to fruit in mulch/wood chips on the ground as opposed to logs?

Walk right threw the creek or as close as you can. They sometimes grow from logs but mostly right from the ground on buried debris.

Thanks for the reply. No luck today, but I have a good feeling about the area I explored for springtime. Seems like good habitat. It's a small drainage creek with lots of logs/woody debris.

Once the day temperatures are in the 50-65°F range is usually when they will start. At least in my part of Pennsylvania. They can be found in the low 40s to mid 30s also.

Don't hesitate to check the floodplains in their natural habitat too. You'd be surprised the size of the flushes they can put out. Almost on par with landscaped mulch beds. Patience and getting advice on here is almost guaranteed to have you succeed. Good luck!

Yes floodplain are superior but right now they don't seem to be flushing yet, usually begins after the massive wave of honey fungus dies off

Thanks guys for the advice. It's been pretty warm in Maryland lately, so I don't think I'll find any this weekend. Supposed to cool off soon though, so might have better luck. That's cool you can find them right in city landscape beds; I have a ton of those near me. If I don't find any this fall hopefully I'll be successful next year. I feel like k have good habitat for ovoids near me. I'll definitely post some pictures of possible finds to get everyone's opinion.
