We need more than just some rain. It’s just about as dry as I’ve ever seen it around here. We need a soaking, multi day rain event. It was 95° today and we’ve had about 1/2 inch of rain in the past three weeks. I’ve only had to mow the lawn 3 times this year.

I've got low expectations, but I'm still hopeful. Getting the best patches wet enough might be enough for another round.

Trust in the foot. Rain storms have been training over me for the entire day. Probably over an inch at this point.
Could these shells and molting failures be used as substrate for something? There’s so much of it.

Yes I was talking to a tree guy about how the rings are larger on cicada years because of the extra nutrients, as far as mushrooms go I think they are the substrate considering their brains get colonized by psychedelic fungus. Also wanting to ask you if you have collected enough of those magic cicadas to take a trip sounds like fun

One of my main patches got completely re-mulched over, noooooooo Does anyone know if they'll grow through the new mulch or if the patch is pretty much borked till at least next season?

Sometimes they can take 2 or 3 seasons to come back depends if they scraped the old mulch out and hauled it away or just laid new shit on top. Fastest I've seen it happen was fresh in spring and fruited like crazy in the fall, that spot is mulched by a garden club every year with hardwood chips, no colorant. Also in a very shady spot that gets a lot of water.

I did find a couple butt infections today. I have no idea what other compounds are in those fungi, and I’m not going to be a guinea pig. There are pretty potent toxins that are structurally similar to both of the known psychoactive alkaloids.

Looks like they just dropped new chips on top but it looks kinda fucky, might be softwood, not sure, hoping they didn't kill a patch i only just discovered this season
On another note, Koods, I think some of those cicada infections actually have cathinones

Dry them out and feed em to a rcoon or something like that they could be big money caviar type shit kinda like the natural cordyceps that go for the big bucks. Think about it not many people have them shits fr. Cicadas are safe to eat so maybe you could have the fungi isolated on agar for more research it would be groundbreaking material. Save some of those cicadas shells and use them as agar nutrient!!
Following up to my previous post, them shits turned into some crazy starfish type mushrooms after they got a little water, I call em the death stars

awesome for the garden man! high N and also chitin keeps bugs away and chelates nutrients! bug shells are the best compost!
