Sorry to interrupt this talk of ticks, asses, and itches with some Ovoid talk.
It was kind of a dog show out there, with clusters of nasty shriveled little fruits.
Here's best in show:

Here's a runt from the wrong breed in the pack:

I noticed lots of bluing and an off smell for almost all clusters. Thinking they're probably ok to consume, except for the big sloppy ones, but it's definitely not what I'd like to see:

Those blue half dried out ones are by far the most potent
I made a margarita with about sixthe size of my pinky, split it with someone else and didn’t even drink the whole thing and then spent the next two hours trying to clean the rest of them while having visuals and blasting tencho.

This one spot is crazy. It’s hard to tell but this mulch is on a hillside max steepness and it just collapses if you put any weight on it. Totally colonized with myc, can only pick with one hand the other needs to hold on for balance. I think the ovoid clusters are actually holding things up. Lots of stuff in the grass too. It’s 95° and I only lasted a half hour. I think this spot is so low in a valley water from higher ground is seeping out and keeping things moist. I’ve probably pulled 20 pounds fresh here since Sunday

This is what my mulberry tree looked like this morning

Uhh so what would you say that was in grams dried? Trying to get a sense for a threshold dose on these.

My recent find of probably close to half a kilo of dried out fruits was also on a steep slope. I'm not sure what was going on, but there's both water pouring down it even in small rain and in at least my case, additional protection from the sun.
Patches away from the steep slope had nothing going on at all.

I'm looking forward to putting that to the test. Would like those ugly guys to be redeemed by extra potency.

Is it worth hunting anymore? It hasn't rained in a while and temps are hitting the 90s. The one patch I found has pretty much dried out, and the weeds grew tall so fast.

I would say no. Aside from this one magical spot which is quickly fading, there’s literally nothing happening anywhere else even in my old standby spots. If we get a some decent rain we could see another flush but going in two weeks with only one half day of drizzle has been disasterous for the season. Even the weeds are wilting.
I’ve ended up tossing half my haul due to maggots causing the caps to pretty much crumble. Should have cleaned them immediately 🤦♂️

Do y'all notice a difference in potency in spring flushes vs fall? The spring flushes in Oregon are far more prolific, but the fall fruits are larger and more potent... imo.

Do the same patches from the spring flush again in the fall? I'm pretty new to this. Does the mycelium stay alive during the hot dry summer?

In Oregon they do, not sure about their natural range.
Koods, that think better have an ejection seat and machine guns in the headlights. Looks like it should at least.

Id say most the natural spots here are beat now cooked to a crisp, a few mulch beds still pumping fruits but only areas with natural water supply and adequate shade. Most the mulch beds here didn't fruit much if at all this season. Anything in direct sunlight didn't put out. Got 2 or 3 spots that have hope for another decent flush but mostly measly pickings. The ground is dry and cracked even in the plains with massive trees and thick ground cover.
Koodz 20lb wet is pretty impressive considering the circumstances, last year could have done that 3 times a day every day for a month tho, shit was crazy
